I keep saying that he's going through what PBF was going through back in the day. Nobody wants to fight him because he's high risk, low reward. Difference between him and Floyd is that Floyd was willing to move through weight classes to get bigger fights. He was calling out 154's when he was fighting at 140. (Mosley, DLH). I think GGG needs to move up in weight to get quality wins. No one at 160 is going to want to fight him, he needs to move up, and take some risks. Make himself the mandatory to some of the champions there. Floyd had great power at 130 and 135, and got a lot of KO's there, but had to move up to get better fights. He lost some power on the way up, but adjusted and got the job done. GGG needs to do the same. GGG should be calling out Ward and Stevenson (168,175) Since he has DEVASTATING power at 160. Chances are he'll still have good to great power at 168, and respectable power at 175. Plus with his amateur pedigree, he should be able to take on most of the challenges at 168,175. P/S unlike the other hyped fighters, I actually think GGG is the real deal, just hasnt had a chance to prove himself. YET.
The thing is Mosley and DLH were the top attractions, but Ward and Stevenson are not but Floyd and Canelo are. Really is all Sergio's fault for not fighting the best and some blame to Sturm also. Both those guys were highly regarded champions.
PBF didn't move up until his 28th fight. GGG just had his 28th, so he's not far off of schedule. Floyd was the top of his division (had lineal title) when he moved, and had been for a while. GGG has yet to conquer his division because guys want huge payday to get in the ring and HBO wasn't willing to pay that in 2013 (hopefully they will in 2014.) So if we're going to compare the two, GGG won't move up until he claims the lineal title (i.e. king of the division) as Floyd had, and I think this is GGG's plan. So call up Sergio, tell him to get his ass in the ring or retire so GGG can claim the lineal title and move up like everyone wants him to.
I would love to see him against Froch @ 168. I think he would easily win, but it would put a name on his resume which would turn into bigger fights. He would be a bigger draw making it worth opponents risking their belts to him.
One guy in history has had an "easy" fight with Froch, and he's arguably the p4p King and a natural 168er. So long as Carl's resistance hasnt been ruined following the brutal battering he took from Groves, this fight would be ****ing savage
How can people claim such bullsh1t? Based WHAT will he beat the second best SMW in the world when he hasn't beaten a MW with a pulse yet? Froch is about 10 times the fighter Macklin is and Macklin is about the best win Golovkin has.
froch seems an obvious opponent for GGG. a great quality win over a great fighter who would surely give the final ruling on GGG being good or GREAT.
Froch has slipped wny bother with him? GG has fought enough slipped fighters....he isn't a 21 y/o prospect with lots of time.
GG is waaayyy off schedule....and you know it. Why are you giving this foreign cherry-picker so much leeway??
Yeah, theres nothing wrong with that. Plenty of fighters go up a weigh division to immediately fight the guy there. Its not like hes some young prospect who needs time to develop. Hes as good as hes going to be at this age. Now its just a matter of telling if that skill is fabricated or legit. I for one, think hes the real deal unlike the other hyped guys. I just want to see him do it against a top guy. Ward-GGG is a very doable fight. I dont see why not.
No if he does that he will lose.. You don't simply jump from B level middleweight competition to top 3 p4p in the world who's also above your weight class.. That's idiotic, he's not 36, he still has plenty of time..
Ward fight cant happen yet for two reasons. One, Ward is in yet another promotional dispute and might not even fight in 2014. Its certainly not something GGG camp or HBO is going to risk anything on. Two, its not a PPV fight yet but in a year it well could be. And Pibb you know good and well there was no cherrypicking, GGG was hosed by Universum even to the point of being legally tied up after he left them - he was basically in limbo for a long time, and was able to fight but basically without a promoter which meant no big fights. Story even broke in Germany where people who had worked with Sturm came forward with docs proving he had paid people off to avoid his mandatory challenger of many years ( one GGG ) which was the fight he had been both chasing and promised.. for literally years. Once the Universum stuff was decisively cleared up he signed with K2, and since it was clear the Euros were going to go to extreme lengths to pretend he did not exist they worked on building a US career. Now that he is the top rated MW contender (for lineal) and HBO ratings star, from now is where we see if he cherry picks and can continue to dominate his opponents and live up to the hype.
