With all the anti Golovkin hate/jealousy going on in and around this site by alot of yanks ive seen people start to suddenly throw Hopkins legendary 160n reign into the argument.

What strikes me is the GGG haters are all saying he hasnt fought top level opposition at 160 and is waiting to pick on the smaller men like Cotto or Canelo.

So taking a look at Hopkins 160 reign and he was also without a top tier name up until fighting the naturally smaller men in Trinidad and DLH.

Other than these two fighters one a welter and the other starting off at 130lb, we have a resume littered with the names of Lipsey, Daniels, Mercado, Allen, Hakkar, Vanderpool and Council. Hrdly a murderers row in itself.

Now Hopkins is a legend, but his reign over the 160 division lacked in quality and was packed with your typical over hyped yanks.

**** wrong forum, mods move it please.

Hopkins reign at MW is laughable.

Roy Jones Jr embarrassed him at 160

    Interesting thread and arguement.

I think Hopkins fought in a tougher era and I think fighters like Echols, Eastman would be top MWs today. Holmes and Joppy were good MWs and champs and I think all would likely beat Cotto if around today.

    nope
roy jones played it very safe in that fight/ frustrated hopkins who had to chase him, when he hates doing that / but it was a boring /take no chances roy jones , not the showboating ko fighter that he was normally at 160/168

I know it's popular to bash Cotto, but Eastman at MW wouldn't beat him, no doubt at all. The other 3 Cotto has a great chance. In terms of ability he is a couple of levels above those mentioned.

i agree in terms of ability cotto is way better, but he is a tiny middle and eastmans size and strength /echols power and size /lindel holmes decent all around boxer / all would give cotto very hard fights/ joppy i never rated that highly, i think cotto would have handled him more easily than the other 3.

cotto is an ATG ,gave mayweather a hard fight but he is going to get beat by a big middle simply on size not ability.

    Cotto is no ATG.

Lost most meaningful fights he'd had, collect tons of vacant belts, and is every bot of an opportunist as Floyd.
