Pavlik just never impressed me. I spotted flaws in his style but as you say a lot of folk were taken with him.
I think Golovkin is much better than Pavlik ever was, but as has been said defensively he need to tighten up.

People didn't say all that about Berto.
Pavlik and Lacy, yes. And it was correct, they did have a lot of talent, people were not wrong. But this is how it works in any sport, sometimes people with a lot of talent like Pavlik or Lacy don't become what they should.

Golovkin can be one of those that use his talent better than guys like Pavlik or Lacy did.

I disagree. Everybody knows that Pavlik had huge problems outside the ring and this obviously was the major factor to his fall. He had talent to be much better than he was, no doubt. Pavlik didn't fade because of a lack of talent but because of alcoholism.

Is he the most feared fighter since tyson? I cant see any of the other belt holders getting in the ring with him.

Soliman said that he will, didn't he ? And also said that he will expose Golovkin or something.

I think that he is definitely a maybe.

Above all he should be given the chance to prove it.

He should be given a chance to fight for the lineal title, and assuming that he wins it, those aspiring to a title at middleweight should have to come through him.

The worst situation of all, would be that the premise of this thread was never tested!

Yeah, I know. But still, I personally wasn't terribly impressed with Pavlik. But regardless, to get back on topic so far in my opinion Golovkin hasn't done much wrong. I too would prefer him to stay at 160 and build a legacy there.
Unfortunately in this era where some mouth-watering fights seem impossible to get made, he may have to seek greener pastures at a higher weight class.

I want to see Golovkin against another puncher, he won't get away with so many shots landed on his face. That can tell you who he is. He has the style to deal with boxers well (offensive footwork behind a good agressive jab).

The one thing that I am sure of, is that none of those punches will hit either of us.

We have everything to gain by turning him loose on the other top middleweights!

What I'm wondering is that if he is more like a new Julian Jackson in terms of quality than a new elite MW for history, you know. Yoo bad we don't have guys like G-Man around to test him, puncher vs puncher could bring Golovkin's best or worse.

I really like his body punching...reminiscent of Julio Cesar Chavez. Not to draw direct comparisons of course, just saying.

I love the oldtimers because they fought in an era where there were a DEEP pool
of contenders...Having said this I believe Golovkin with his extroadinary concussive
punching power and the fact that in over 300 amateur bouts and 28 pro fights, Gennady was never FLOORED...Saturday night folks I saw an awesome thing when in the 3rd
round, in an exchange, Daniel Geale hit Golovkin flush on the jaw with a right hand,
just a fraction of a second later Gennady unleashed his right hand on the chin of Geale
knocking him out...Golovkin took this right cross so well it didn't deter his own right cross that ended the contest...He knocks out whoever he faces and the rest of the middleweights avoid him like the plague....A killer with a baby face...Of course he never faced the great fighters from yesteryear, but time will prove me right, that he will belong
with the true great MWs in history...

I hope you are right, Burt. Boxing needs a superstar right now and GGG certainly looks the part. My one worry is the standard of opponent he has been fighting. John Mugabi might have trounced them, too.

I think he might be one of those "freaks" who come along every so often, like Joe Louis, who could belong in any era. We can't just dismiss all the new guys because the competition isn't as strong as in the past, so credit for giving him credit!

The talent is there but he is already past 30 and he has yet to unify the titles at 160, Cotto,Kid Chocolate Quinlan and Soliman are not going to be too fast to fight him, maybe Soliman because its a money fight.

GGG has the star potential, reminds me a little of Joe Louis but looks like Greb. HBO has promised a busy schedule so hopefully he gets the fights at 160 to unify and clean out the division before testing the water at 168lbs

many of the so called experts were saying Geale was going to win or be tough but it was a calm dominance, I love his style reminds me of Tyson,Duran,Chavez but has the pinpoint precision of Louis
