Will boxing allow Golovkin to open fire on the division? The Quillin fight has made sense for a few years now and would present Gennady with his best win, plus another belt.

The Geale fight essentially confirmed what most believed - there is plenty of substance to the hype.

Staying at 160lbs is the right move for now. He simply needs to stay active and keep calling people out. The middleweight division wasn't brilliant when Hagler landed; it soon warmed up. If Gennady can unify he may inspire a new generation.

Unified champs are a rare n' special breed, especially nowadays.

He has the potential but lets not forget Berto and the likes. Give it some time.

He has not done enough yet to be considered with the all time MWs.

But I am becoming more of a believer the more I see him fight, his punching power is truly elite.

Though I think he would be in trouble against someone like MW Toney, great counter puncher, great defense and can take a shot.

No not yet. But he could do so if he becomes unified middleweight champion by beating Cotto, Quillan and Soliman. That would give him 13 sucessful defences, add a few more wins and then perhaps he can be mention as a great middleweight. He'll struggle to beat the achievements of the very top great middles like Hopkins, Hagler, Robinson, Greb and Monzon in the current division though.

I think he's great, but there are different levels of "great" can I see him beating SRR, no.

Quite honestly, the way he took punches last night, not Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins either, Roy Jones was the most talented fighter I ever saw at 160 and beat both Toney and Hopkins in their primes easily. He MIGHT have outhustled Toney, but I don't see it. For those of you drooling over GGG's power, James Toney fought a total of 72 rounds with Holyfield, Rachman, Ruiz, Jirov and Samuel Peter, and was never hurt. he'd laugh at GGGs punches.

You make a mistake and it is my fault? What is that? I have defended both Zale and Graziano on this thread so either way I'm good. Destory either one how you please. Just don't tell me that Golovkin is better.

Solid post. Roy beats GGG by a WIDE UD and maybe stops him if GGG's chin betrays him late.

Hopkins wins a more contested decision, while GGG-Toney is a "pick-em" affair.

Hopkins does Golovkin just like he did Trinidad.

    lOL.

The MW division is extremely weak relative to the Toney/Hopkins era, and sports writers and fans are definitely much more dumber.

I was looking at a major boxing site's P4P list and laughed to see they list Cotto, Maidana, Canelo, Golovkin, Stevenson and Garcia higher than Hopkins and Rigodeaux. :patsch:rofl

At LEAST two levels below Nunn.

    Before losing to Toney Nunn had faced and defeated;

    - Iran barkley

    - Donald Curry

    - Marlon Starling

    - Frank Tate

Golovkin hasn't even dreamed of being in the ring with this level of opposition.
