You don't even know how much either guy would ask for because they've never entered any sort of negotiation. People like you want to call everyone else stupid because they aren't brainwashed. They said they aren't interested in DeGale either because he doesn't bring enough money. I guess he would ask for $5M too. If they're going to dismiss people right off the back for economic reasons, and if the fans are ok with it, then you can't complain when guys turn him down for economic reasons. I'm ok with Golovkin not wanting to fight certain guys for monetary reasons. But you have to be consistent.

Yeah that's right, a Ward fight will sell nothing and Ward will demand $5M. Golovkin fans can keep telling themselves things like this when Golovkin is fighting another Willie Monroe level guy next.

How would you see a Ward/GGG shaking out if it took place later this year financially and ratings-wise?

PPV? If yes, how many buys?
If not PPV, then average viewers if it were free on HBO?
    Purses for each?

I don't know the answers to these questions, and neither do you. I do know that Golovkin has never fought on PPV. If he wants to apply a standard for Ward that the fight has to be on PPV, that's fine. However if guys turn him down because Golovkin doesn't meet the financial standards that they only apply to certain guys, then there's no room to complain. Golovkin will not make Cotto as much money as Canelo does. So Golovkin would not meet Cotto's financial needs. So how can Golovkin, or any of his fans that are ok with him sidestepping guys because he claims they don't bring enough money, complain about Cotto bypassing him for Alvarez? How can they complain if Floyd tells them to get lost because he can make similar money fighting guys his size?

Monroe will take less money than Ward. If Ward wants 3mil theres no way, if Ward will take 1m - which isnt that far above the Geale official purse, then I bet the fight can be made.

Or maybe its time for Roc to show they mean business and reach into their own pockets to make the match. If Roc wants to make the fight they can, they just need to put the money up. They can do it if they put the marketing effort in, HBO will probably pony up 4mil for the fight - so that means Roc needs a 2million gate.

Ward and GGG would both take the fight at an even 3mil split, I really really think the fight could happen.

People are clearly stans in this thread. GGG made less than 2 million his last fight. He's not over being a money making machine like his promoter and fans are trying to portray. So money can't be an excuse as to why a 34 year old who has no problem fighting the Monroes of the world should price himself out against real fighters who've done far more in and for the sport.

I think you misunderstood me, man. I wasn't suggesting anything about why GGG should be able to avoid Ward for any financial reasons. I was genuinely interested in your opinion on how big the fight would be at this point in both men's careers because you seem like you're trying to keep a level head and avoid double standards. :thumbsup

The only point I would make about the difference between GGG/Ward, GGG/Floyd and GGG/Cotto is that GGG is Cotto's mando and under the WBC rules Cotto should have already had to make a mando defense by now since he's been champ for over a year. But there's plenty of history that tells us the sanctioning bodies, and particularly the WBC, will not enforce mandos that could put a big money fight in danger. It's not right, but it is what it is and what's happening to GGG right now is by no means a unique situation.

Anyway, I'd like to hear your guesstimates on the scope of a Ward/GGG fight if it were to happen right now. I'm on my phone at the moment but I'm going to type up my thoughts on it when I get back to a computer in a few minutes. :thumbsup

You sure post quite a lot but add essentially nothing. This above effort is a prime example.

You start by stating you have no answers then go on some quizling rant replete with open ended questions you just got done claiming neither yourself nor anyone else could answer. :huh

How the hell can I or anyone else give a competent projection for the financials of a Ward vs. Golovkin fight? I can tell you that I believe it would attract enough attention that both guys would be well paid.
