He will never be greater than Floyd. He's 31 with a shabby resume at best. He'd have to fight the next 10 years undefeated to even be mentioned. He doesn't even have a big name on his resume. We are tired of hearing about who is ducking him. The guys at 168 are old except Ward. Tell him to go up and fight them. I actually think that GG beats Ward. GG can't beat any good, skilled orthodox fighter. Ward is a converted southpaw. GG can win that fight if he is who you say he is. Ward imo is overrated, but he is a tough guy to beat.
I'll agree with you that his power is obviously untested at 168 but the video evidence(and testimony from sparring partners) suggests that he would punch noticeably harder than Froch and Abraham. Kessler's another story, IMO...
Golovkin as been very impressive so far but he has beaten nobody of note. Mayweather in terms of skills is simply on another level. We have seen plenty of big hitting middleweights recently who have been exposed when they have stepped up against skilled boxers. Taylor, Pavlik, Abraham all hit hard but being a big puncher alone does not make you a great fighter.
I'm a big Golovkin fan but can't dispute the criticism that he ain't really fought any really testing opponents yet. Mack was supposed to be a test, but was dealt with easily. Murray, Quillin (which can't happen at the moment) and an apparently faded Maravilla are all that's left at MW. To prove his ability Gena will have to step up to 168 I believe, but even beating Froch and 'Dre would not make him 'greater than Mayweather'. In fact, since 'greatness' is in part conferred by public perception, it's unlikely that anything GGG did (short of perhaps unifying every division from MW to CW) would raise his stock above Floyd. All he can do is carry on fighting, and carry on winning emphatically. He already holds (or is close to) the record for the greatest number of title defense KOs and has the best KO percentage in MW championship history - not to mention the best KO record of any current Champion (which should by rights be held by Kovalev). I believe he has the skills to be one of the greats in the sport, but cos of his aggressive style, they seem to be overlooked by many (most of the other exceptionally skilled fighters have more defensive styles) - but greater than Floyd? The fight fans of the future will have to make that call after both are long retired. Personally, I'd say unlikely, unless of course these future judges weigh amateur records more highly than we do today. http://www.thesweetscience.com/news...-golovkin-might-have-best-offense-in-the-game Interesting article concerning Genas skills.^ Whilst I recognise that brilliance as an amateur does not necessarily translate into the pros, if anything the rule of 'hit but don't get hit' (which is often used as the exemplar of skill in boxing) is more of a requisite in the ams, since power counts for much less. Given this, GGGs 345-5 record speaks volumes about his skill level.
It took GG 7 rnds to get rid of jr middle Rosado and needed endswell between rounds. Angulo VAPORIZED Rosado in 2 and wasn't touched:deal
