That's the good thing about him he's not like floyd he knocks opponents out 15 in a row and on feb 1st it will be number 16
A guy with Golovkin's style and chin can afford to take liberties with their defence. Especially against less powerful opponents.
pretty average defense though you must remember his game plan seemed to be centred around outworking and grinding him down (hence the 100 punches a round).. but yes his defense was rather leaky.. A+ ****ing chin but
If you have a Chin it really doesn't matter about your defense as your Chin is the second line of defense. Even defensive masterminds got hit in the face on occasion. What matters is the Chin.
Golovkin does have d-fence issues and he goes into a mode where he drops his hands and just throws bombs. I hate when his diehard fans say he didn't respect Stevens power and that's why he was getting hit clean with lots of punches. Most of his fans can't name one Pro fight where Golovkin showed this superb defense his obsessed fans claim he has, and i'm not talking about the damn Amateurs or Sparring.
His defense while moving forward is surely above average though he lacks true head movement and upperbody flexibility. If you can back him up like Rosado did and Stevens did at spots during their respective fights you can find success problem is keeping that strategy consistant, GGG always finds a way to work himself out of vunerable positions with the strength and accuraccy of his own offense. GGG is a stud but he's not unbeatable....problem is finding someone that can expose his flaws...you'll be hard pressed to find that person in their prime at the moment.
