Not amazing numbers to be honest. Didn't Froch/Groves 2 do more and that was aired in the middle of the afternoon.
not good at all. i wonder how many viewers it got on boxnation and whatever else in europe it was shown on.
Pretty much. Personally I suspect that Geale having lost in the only fight most US casuals have seen him in had something to do with it. Noone really expected it to be a challenge. For Macklin, he had knocked down Martinez. For Stevens, he had scored flashy KO's on free (as in free free ) TV, looked dangerous and called out Golovkin. NBCSN ME fights range between 2 and 3 million viewers. Probably around 2.5mil ppl saw Stevens viciously KO a guy and call out GGG. It makes a difference. This should remind people (and hopefully network execs) just how important the FNF, Golden Boy Live on FS1, NBCSN Main Events feeder system is. Win 2 belts in Europe, noone knows or gives a ****. Squash a can on free-free TV and people know who you are.
doesn't help that Martinez was plagued with injury and inactive for so long sturm and quillin are afraid to dip their feet in the water, and like you said, geale has only been on the networks one time its not Hopkins, Williams, taylor and pavlik time - completely different ballpark
The feeder system is very important, but let's keep it in context- Perez had a thrilling war against Mago, and Jennings himself was a product of that feeder system. Their fight couldn't crack 700k. And that was a fight that mattered in the heavyweight division. It looked like it was lower numbers than expected all around. But, the silver lining in the disappointing figures is that a few hundred thousand more tuned in just to see Golovkin fight. This won't affect his ability to get the Sam Solimans of the world into the ring because he's still a bargain for HBO, but it underscores his need to get on a PPV B-side, even if the terms suck.
Awful thread! I was hoping to see him blow up the ratings, but open up the thread and see it is basically slightly above average. In my mind these numbers are a bit disappointing really, HBO has had its full hype machine going overdrive for GGG for a while.
1.2m would have accounted for summer drop, but not less than 1m :verysad Wont be seeing a Soliman next thats for sure. HBO/K2 will do whatever it takes to get a name known to US fans in the ring. Maybe extra effort will be made to get Quillin or Ward in the ring.
• Gregorz Proksa (Sept. 1, 2012): 685,000 • Gabriel Rosado (Jan. 19, 2013): 813,000 • Matthew Macklin (June 29, 2013): 1.1 million • Stevens (Nov. 2, 2013): 1.41 million • Geale (July 26, 2014): 984,000 i bet kirkland in october could do 2 million.
