Interesting. I remember when such a drop in ratings was greeted like this around here Hope this writer feels the same about GGG, because what's good for the goose............
Same goes for Rigondeaux, who did a disappointing rating against an opponent far more obscure than Geale and was banished off the network for good. In that case, he at least had the potential excuse of another boxing card airing at the same time. What exactly was stealing eyeballs from Golovkin on Saturday?
Robbie Lawler vs Matt Brown UFC fight on FoxSports. From the looks of it, fans watched that, said to hell with the heavyweight fight with Jennings-Perez, and some of them flipped over to watch the Golovkin fight.
Just want to remind yall golovkin is already 32. He only probably has 5 GOOD years left MAX. Mayweather at this point was fighting Marquez. Since the Shane fight floyd has gone downhill. Golovkin might not come to stardom until it is too late.
are you fricken serious? Canelo had 350,000 BUYERS. People paid 70 dollars to watch him. GGG's fight was free (with a subscription to HBO)
what are you laughing about. stevens did 1.4 before triple G was as well known. chocolate and kirkland are the fights to make as far as an american audience.
Those numbers aren't good, atleast far short of expectations. Late July through August are the slowest months in boxing for a reason. People don't like giving up those summer nights. Leading into this, Martinez-Cotto, and Alvarez-Lara also fell short of their respective expectations. Lets see how this week's HBO card does and the two Showtime cards after it to establish what the baseline is regarding seasonality. The UFC card probably didn't help. The silver lining here is that HBO may feel pressure to get Golovkin a more recognized opponent than Soliman. Fighting Adama didn't help move his brand any amongst the non-hardcore.
