Well, other than a potential GGG match up which doesn't look likely any time soon I don't see any reason for coming down anyway. And it's likely that some of the current crop of SMWs will move up at some point to LHW anyway, many have previously.

Whether it's Ward - Kovalev or Ward - GGG, those are the fights that matter. BTW, where is Adonis Stevenson in all of this convo about Ward moving up?

Don't know why its unrealistic to make ward-ggg at 168 in October. They are both available. Unless Ward doesn't feel ready or know he cant make 168 easily after long layoff or ggg's people want total middleweight unification first.

Signed to Haymon while Ward is signed to JayZ, which is about like being signed to Hatfields and McCoys.

If DL doesn't sign to fight GGG next... I hope K2 and Roc can work something out. I'd give GGG a lot more credit even if he loses to Ward than I would for pulverizing Heiland or Johnson.

True, he also said he would fight aynone from 154-168. A fight between he and Chavez was all but a done deal at 168 until Chavez pulled out. Golovkin's side recently made a push for him to fight Froch at 168. So clearly they think he can fight at the division. Golovkin himself said the other day that he's ready to fight Ward. So the argument that Ward is too big doesn't add up to me. Size would not be an impediment to making the fight happen.

The impediment is money. Not just for GGG, but for Ward as well. Unless someone really wants to try and keep a straight face while saying that Ward will fight GGG for less money than he got for E-Rod. HBO purse outlay typically tops out at 3mil per event, GGG had 2m min for Chavez, Ward I think received about same for E-Rod.

That's already more than HBO wants to pay, and that's assuming both would take same pay for drastically harder fight.

Its a hard fight to make if its not PPV.

When did he say that? 3 years ago or so, it's silly to hold him to those words still, he's come a long way since then, in fact in pretty much all of his recent interviews he's on the record saying many times that his own division and unification fights are the biggest priority to him now.

And yes, if he's willing to fight other SMWs he should be willing to fight Ward but he hasn't yet and until he moves up and actually has a fight there at he weight I'm not interested in all honesty.

By the same token, I don't really demand that Ward moves up either (except to counter-troll people here), I'm fine with him staying at 168 and it's his decision but I hope these same people who talk about GGG moving up will hold Ward to the same standard when he fights the subpar opposition remaining at SMW rather than the better fighters in the division above.

Mayweather's fight night weights are much further away from Golovkin's than Golovkin's are from Ward's. No one has an obligation to fight an opponent from a different division but the notion that these fights are equally unrealistic or unfair is false.

Ward has been held to a higher standard than Golovkin and I don't see that changing in the near future. Personally, I'm interested in seeing both these guys take on top comp, even if it's against a guy from a different weight class.

Frankly I think that Ward will do fine at 175. He has the skills to see him through. Fact is, that he is just a better fighter than GGG. While GGG is indeed a good fighter, his calling card is his power and a middle weight with the skills of Ward would beat him nine out of ten times. What are we asking GGG to test by moving up, his skills or his power and what are we asking of Ward to test by moving up,his skills or his chin. Ward has been in with heavy hitters and has proven worthy, GGG has yet to fight a top notch skilled fighter.
GGG fighting Ward would only result in a serious ass whooping for the Kazakhstani.

Wow. You must not be watching closely.

Ward will obviously be the favorite vs Golovkin but to write that last sentence you must be a hater or not educated in the sweet science.

GGG is no one trick pony and he will most likely prove it to you when one of these elite guys steps to the negotiating table.

Ward was fortunate to have the Super Six to prove his greatness.

I want to see Ward beat GGG before fighting Kovalev. This of course assumes Andre feels the rust is off and want make the fight.

GGG vs Ward is not unrealistic. He beat the cra p out of Murray and Rubio who are big middleweights to say the least, so the size disadvantage is not that huge. Frankly I'd be more concerned about him draining to 154 for a big money fight there. Geale vs Cotto showed what draining too much can do to one's chances.

Still, Ward-Kovalev would be fun, too.
