Monroe's lone loss is to the Conqueror of Adonis, "Deezol" Boone, which was two fights after he went to a decision with Krusher (both Boone-Kovalev and Boone-Monroe were SDs). I'm on board with the fight, if nothing else we'll see how GGG handles a slick southpaw (probably like handles 'em all, I suppose).
finally ggg is stepping up and taking on an elite quality fighter...willie monroe is a proven star with a great record....haters can't crticize ggg's choice of opponents this time!
after ths fight, i hear ggg will REALLY kick it into gear and fight tureano "jack" johnson....or heiland aka the great musta rd. two of the very best!
terrible fight.. i'm a ggg fan but damn couldn't they find someone better? please don't give me a reply about how everyone is ducking him, this is obvious, but still there has to be someone better than Monroe.
Well if it makes any difference to you, Chavez struggled with Vera the first time and a little the second time, and Willie dominated him from start to finish and even dropped him once. Willie will be a good barometer to see how GGG will do against a truly slick defensive fighter. Check it out if you haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVEdnBn8lt8
Chavez was fat as **** and outta shape in the first Vera fight. He clearly won easily in the second. You know I'm a GGG fan CST, but I can't accept this fight. Vera was a shot journey man when he was beat. Monroe would be a good fight against someone like Jacobs, or Sanders, but not GGG.
Yeah I'm not head over heels but at least it'll give us some indication as to how GGG will deal with a retreating counter puncher and it should make guys who want to see him fight a Lara or Andrade happy to see he's fighting someone who fights similar to them, he's dipping his toe into the water to get a warm up and see how he fight against guys like that. He hasn't fought that style in a while.
I don't think there are many people who care about how he deals with a slick counter puncher. It's more the level of opposition. Imagine what fighting Froch, Canelo, Cotto, and Ward will do for his legacy. If he continues down this path he'll be forgotten 10 years after he retires.
Yeah I agree but if he fights 2 more times after this maybe he'll get some better opponents,:conf but any GGG is better than no GGG, how many other top fighters are willing to fight 4 times a year.
well, if the top fighters are facing off against tomato cans and bums, they'll probably fight SIX times a year. i'd love to see fmj against brian vera, and mathew macklin and a couple of other fighters of that caliber 4 times a year...yeah floyd is better than no floyd.
