Why? Those titles are the garbage, meaningless. Hardly anyone who fights for one "earns" it even though earning it is deceptively easy. It doesn't matter to me that a meaningless trinket is up for grabs. Have you seen the Geale fight? You made that a shutout?
Adama is ranked 3 IBO and satisfies a mandatory. He did fairly well vs Geale, never been down or out. He is a solid boxer, even though hes not a world beater. As a Ghanian, he will do well in the TV markets that are being served by the Monaco fight. Saying "no ones broadcasting it" is a lie. Its actually a boxing TV event in many parts of the world. There is more to boxing than the USA, and a Ghanian contender is a decent fight for the money for the markets - which includes Africa btw - that Golden Gloves promotions (which puts on the MC bouts, and is an African promoter) serves and Octapixx (the TV distributor) sells to. What I dont get, is how so many people forget that a great many titleholders only fight once or twice a year. Golovkin is staying in camp, keeping busy, and doing his J O B which is fight for money. Obviously the HBO dates are going to bring bigger purses and better known opposition, Geale didnt take the MC bout because he wanted the HBO pay/exposure. But haters gonna hate I suppose.
Im not supporting or deducting from Golovkin and who hes fought and what hes achieved, but didnt J Toney and R Jones do the same thing when world champs? Take stay busy fights?
When his career is over nobody will remember GGG for what he did at Middleweight. Fighting the top talent at 168-175 will establish what his legacy will be. He's going to be in his mid thirties before we see how he matches up against these top fighters. Maybe thats his plan though, some of the best fighters at 168-175 are even older then he is and will be well past there prime in 2-3 years.
Adama is a stronger fighter than Rosado, Ishida or Proksa. Just because isn't a top 10 MW it doesn't mean that he's a weak fighter. He has 3 losses by UDs against Dyah Davis, Don George and Geale.
Your'e right his resume does not proceed his man eating reputation, but IMO he's the best at middleweight. Although it's going to be hard to make the fights.
That's the way i see it, but i understand what people are saying because the champion should be fighting top 10 opponents, but that's the sad thing about being champion of a watered down version of the world title today. We don't see the best fight the best.
At least he'll still have the highest KO% of any current beltholder after this one, so.. you know... At least he's got that going for him. :hey
