GGG is very close to securing an ATG spot, all he has to do is keep the title KO streak into the Undisputed Championship :smoke

Dominic Wade is a real threat, so KO#16 is not guaranteed & he might end up losing :think

He's no appreciation for height and reach.

    Let's look at 2 examples:

    Floyd vs Canelo:

They are both roughly the same height, with Canelo being just slightly taller.

    Floyd was outweighed significantly.

Floyd has a slight reach advantage over him at 1.5"

    Golovkin vs Stevenson:

Stevenson is slightly taller than Golovkin.

He would outweigh him on fight night.

He would have a huge reach advantage of 7"

Not forgetting of course that Golovkin would have to move up and pack on weight, whereas Floyd made Canelo go down for a CW, despite being a JMW champ himself.

He's demanding that Golovkin does something that Floyd himself only ever did once in his career.

Floyd never fought guys two weights above his natural weight class, whilst being completely outsized and outweighed in the process.

Good luck explaining to him how the above scenarios are different.

I've tried to explain it to him but have gotten nowhere.

It can be easier but it can also be easier if you have more speed, power, skill etc.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of Golovkin's, and the hype from his hardcore fans is very annoying, especially when they're telling people how he'd breeze through legends of the past with consummate ease etc. But the criticism he's receiving for just trying to accomplish his goals, is completely unjust.

True but it's not the first time. People often criticized Calzaghe for not moving up in weight to chase big fights and he wasn't anywhere near as hyped as GGG.

Most of the GGG hatred is in retaliation for him getting so much hype without beating anybody all that good and in retaliation for all the hatred guys like Floyd and Ward get. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Both sides just troll each other.

I understand your point, Im just telling you that its nonsencial and stupid and I don't mean to be rude either. I'm saying GGG should move up and fight heavier opponents and I used Floyd for comparison. Your point is "bu...bu.....but Floyd may have been outweighed but he had longer arms so its not the same." My retort again is that is doesn't matter because its not a recognized criteria in the sport for detrmining classes or ensuring fair matchups. The sole criteria is weight. Why you can't see that is beyond me. Yes I get that height and reach matter, but like I said so do power, speed, reflexes, timing, stamina and other intangibles. But none of those matter when setting fair matchups only weight. There are weight classes, not height classes or reach classes, or handspeed classes. Therefore since Floyd has fought at a significant weight disparity before, then so should GGG if he wants to be considered great.

It's like you've never heard of the laws of physics, of leverage, angles, and mechanical advantage; or it's never occurred to you that larger men generally have proportionally stronger muscles to support their bigger frame. Do you think they list size and reach before a match for the hell of it, and it has no bearing on the contest?

Of course, we frequently match fighters by other criteria as well. We often match them by their records, don't we? In a sense, isn't that what this thread is about? People are saying that GGG is good enough or strong enough to fight at light heavyweight and that it would still be a fair fight for him?

I don't think it's ridiculous at all to ask Mayweather to fight another fast boxer like Pacquiao or Judah, or a tall boxer like De La Hoya or Alvarez to see what happens when you take one of their advantages away. I think that is just competitive match making.

Yes, boxing is a sport that depends in large measure on small advantages be they weight, height, reach, speed, or strength. Often marquee fighters can lose one advantage and retain others and though Mayweather sometimes fought at a weight disadvantage he very often maintained his height and reach advantages. Mayweather himself is probably the poster boy for boxers exacting as many small advantages as they can from their opponents amounting to a win. He would demand larger rings because they suited his style of fighting and so that he could avoid his opponents. He demanded larger gloves to reduce his opponent's punching power. He'd pick a ref which was friendly to him and venues where he'd have home team advantage. These things seem small but they add up.

I think of how Mickey Walker challenged Tommy Loughran. He was only able to challenge a man that much bigger than him because he was a huge puncher for his size and Loughran had no power at all. Loughran was four inches taller with six inches more reach but only an 8% KO record. A guy that much larger than Mickey who could punch might have just blown him right out of there, like Tommy Hearns did to Roberto Duran.

People did criticise Joe, myself included. But the circumstances were different to GG's. Joe couldn't unify with Ottke, he'd spoke of how hard it was to make weight, and LHW was significantly stronger with more named fighters in it.

My point isn't nonsensical at all.

    It's factual.

Floyd was only ever outweighed and completely outsized in ONE fight.

If GG went up to LHW, he'd be outweighed and completely outsized in almost every fight.

You can't argue against that as much as you want to try.

GG going up and fighting Kovalev, Ward and Stevenson etc, would not be the same as when Floyd fought Canelo and Maidana.

    That's my point.

    Nobody can argue against that.

We're just going around in circles.

I don't mind if you think GG should move up to LHW. But don't try and tell us that it would be the equivilant of what Floyd did in his career, and that Floyd had more courage. Because again, it's absolute nonsense.
