I agree. I would force Canelo to fight or vacate if I was GGG. Probably wouldn't bother with Saunders and Jacobs though if they look like they're gonna try to avoid him.

A lot of people defending GGG cowardice. Ig he wants to be a forgotten name in 10 years than he should go ahead and keep doing what he's doing.

What do you mean why not?

Apart from the weight, Canelo and Floyd were around the same size, with Floyd having a reach advantage.

But if you were to put GG at the side of someone like Stevenson, he'd be tiny in comparison.

It's totally unrealistic and unfair to ask GG to move up to LHW.

What is it with fans like you today?

You have no respect for the fighters, nor do you appreciate their circumstances.

Have you ever been in a boxing gym?

    Have you ever boxed?

    There is no 'cowardice'

Everyone of those fighters started at bantamweight/lightweight and were 20 years old. Golovkin is 34 yo and started at middleweight.

Floyd and Canelo are similar heights but Canelo weighs more. Golovkin and Stevenson are similar heights but Stevenson weighs more. Okay Floyd has a long reach for his size but Golovkin has massive power for his size so I think Floyd fighting Canelo is similar to Golovkin fighting Stevenson.

He was fighting at junior welterweight in the amateurs around the same age those fighters turned pro in their first division. If he'd turned pro at 16 or 18 like those fighters then he would have gone up 3 or 4 divisions. He turned pro in his late twenties when he'd quit growing and putting on muscle so there was no need for him to go up in weight class any more. There was no way that Pacquiao or Mayweather could possibly have stayed at their original weight classes from their teens. Mayweather has the body of a welterweight and Pacquiao has the body of a lightweight. They had a choice about going up to welterweight in Pac's case or junior middleweight in Floyd's but the rest was out of their hands.

Not really. When you compare the height and reach:
    Floyd: 5'8", 72"
    Amarillo: 5'9", 70.5"
    Golovkin: 5'10.5", 70"
    Stevenson:5'11", 77"

Floyd still had reach advantage over Amarillo even though he'd given up an inch of height. Stevenson, although an inch shorter than most light heavyweights and only half an inch taller than Golovkin still has seven inches of reach advantage, which shows just how much naturally bigger he is. Floyd vs Amarillo or Golovkin is a much fairer fight than Golovkin vs Stevenson or Kovalev.

Just staying at middleweight is going to be a challenge for Golovkin with weight cutters like Andy Lee 6'2", 75" and Danny Jacobs 6'0", 73" in the division. Those guys are the same size as James Degale or Anthony Dirrell. Eubank Jr. and Peter Quillin are both a little taller and bigger than Golovkin as well for that matter. If he makes it through that gauntlet, then good luck to him. Mayweather hardly ever fought guys with size advantages over him. He was just content to do like Amarillo and drag smaller guys up from lower weight classes most of the time.

Only if you place a lot of importance on reach. As I said, I think power is just as important and while Floyd has big reach, he lacks power whereas Golovkin lacks reach but has an abundance of power.

At the end of the day they are weight divisions so weight is what really matters

Yeah, it's totally a coincidence that most of the guys in the same division have the same height and reach, or that the ones who dominate divisions are usually the tallest with the longest reach. I'm sure that Tyson Fury would be every bit as formidable if he was 6'2", 78" but still weighed 260 lbs.

What's that got to do with what I said?

There are many factors which determine success in boxing but size is determined by weight

    It wouldn't be the same.

Stevenson has a 77" reach, and his frame is huge in comparison. GG is a small MW.

I don't believe that Canelo had 20 pounds on Floyd either.

Andre Ward's reach is only 1 inch bigger than Golovkin's. Not sure how you can say Stevenson's frame is so much bigger without seeing them next to each other either. What are you using for reference?

And lets not forget Golovkin has fought Bute and Dirrell in the amateurs and their frames are probably as big as Stevenson's.

    Golovkin isn't a huge MW.

A few years ago, I heard Abel Sanchez say that he had a walking around weight of 167 pounds. And I know that he once officially weighed 165 pounds 30 days out, and he's often weighed in below the limit.

I think SMW would be fine, but LHW would be stretch against the best in the division.

Carl Froch recently said that he was really surprised at how small Golovkin was.

Look at Sergey Kovalev. He has a natural walking around weight of 190 pounds. And I've read articles where he seemed reluctant to go to CW, because the bigger guys would be able to push him around. I also believe that Stevenson and Ward walk around between 180-190 pounds.

I bet if you put Golovkin next to Kovalev, his frame would look small. Floyd didn't look small when he fought Canelo though.

Again, Floyd fighting Canelo, would not be the same as Golovkin fighting guys like Stevenson and Kovalev etc. He'd be giving away lots of natural weight, as well as height and reach. Floyd never fought anyone who had a 6-7" reach advantage over him. It's just not the same.
