Golovkin makes up for the lack of stature compared to Chavez jr with a more intelligent manner of applying pressure. Add to that the fact he thumps a **** lot harder than Chavez jr and you got a recipe for disaster for a fighter in decline with 37yr old legs.
Ggg is crazy good...geale will ask hbo to put up some good coin to fight him or he'll just dump his WBA belt..
My point is, Canelo is being sheltered from legit 154ers. You gotta be a LWW, or welter, or washed up, to earn a fight with him. GG is none of those
You know that AA had no amateur career. It shows up in his rudimentary approach, just like his stablemate Huck
Outside of Pavlik, Martinez has fought no top rated middleweight since he has been Champion. Williams had done nothing at middleweight, outside of getting a close decision over Martinez. Macklin was/is not a top three middleweight, neither is Chavez Jr. Chavez Jr. showed improvement? He showed he would come into the ring outweighing his mediocre opposition by 15 pounds. You guys have a funny way of rating guys. Chavez Jr, like Barker, and Macklin, has no wins over legitimately rated middleweights. Guys beat up a whole bunch of tomato cans, and you rate them. At least you can look at guys like Golovkin, and Pirog and see the ability, and potential. Macklin isn't better than Quillen.
Not necessarily mine, but just about any and every boxing publication at the time of those fights. Part of the problem with there being fewer fighters, having fewer fights today than ever before is that there are naturally less match-ups amongst top ten caliber fighters to base a rating off of. Chavez Jr and Macklin are a tier above Dzinzurik/Barker, I can't see lumping them together. I'm not calling them elite, but both still make the cut amongst top 5-8 even after taking L's. The division just very recently started to warm up. As for Williams, neither did Martinez really at the time outside of beating Pavlik as a big underdog. The guy was a P4P fighter in the same weight area as Sergio, what else do you want? It's far from the first time a guy has been rated highly in a division based on perceived talent and ability. Paul was a very good fighter, flat out.
1. Hype is good. It's what promotes our sport. 2. You can earn hype. 3. He earned some good hype, but hasn't taken the ultimate tests of his division. 4. You'd have to be blind to think he had no substance at all, even if he doesn't pan out as an elite fighter. 5. He definitely stands out as a middleweight contender.
Golovkin couldn't fight in the US until this year and Macklin was most certainly rated higher than him at the time Martinez made that fight. Quillin turned down a Martinez fight and hasn't beaten any rated middleweights either. Hell he's just now taking on a guy not coming off a loss for the first time in years.
Williams II: http://m.ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/124723-martinez-williams-head-to-head-analysis Macklin: http://m.ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/171967-martinez-macklin-live-blog-round-by-round- Chavez: http://m.ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/173441-ring-ratings-update-no-movement Compiling your own and having an opinion is encouraged (I'd consider GGG probably the best contender out there right now despite his rating), but it's silly to say these guys weren't contenders.
ESB=TMZ GGG is a very good fighter. Heavy handed, can pressure and box, counter and set you up, plus he wants to fight everyone.
