Say what you will about the guy, but he's always in shape and doesn't hurt himself cutting drastic weight prior to a fight. I think that's a huge advantage before ever throwing a punch that doesn't get talked about al ot.
Golovkin always makes weight, he is a very disciplined fighter and that's they key...........................
Its funny how GGG was also 162.9lb for the 7 day check weight Vs Kell brook, yet the very next morning after the official weigh in's he had already gained 8.8lbs for the IBF morning check weight leaving him the rest of the day to rehyrate even further. Literally blows my mind how little people know about weight cutting and don't realize he's clearly cut water weight for the 7 day check weigh in, No 160lb fighter is 163lbs a week out, No 154lb fighter is even that light. The WBC 7 day check weight only allows 5% over the official weight limit in this case 168lbs, Fighters use this opportunity to drill their water weight cut that they will do for the official weigh ins, To get an idea how easy the water cut will go. No offense but if you honestly think GGG is walking around at 163lbs you are completely ignorant to how weight cutting works.
So true this, but that's what they all do and it's still pretty impressive he's that close a week out. He doesn't have to spend much on losing more weight as other fighters have to at that point, which is an advantage. Can he still make 154 without needing support at the weigh-in? Definitely not! But he's clearly not one of the big weightdrainers in the division.
Yeah i agree, GGG is definitely not a huge weight cutter, his is very professional and makes the weight relatively comfortably,I think Jacobs and Saunders are both bigger weight cutters than GGG, GGG isn't a big middle weight neither a small one hes a true natural middle weight. Lets just not act like hes this small middle weight that rocks up a week out with only 3lbs to lose,
Yep, spot on, of course he cuts water weight for the 7-day weigh-in - although I don't think anyone in this thread thought otherwise. Obviously a lot of casuals do though.
I don't think there is any weight difference worth talking about with him and Canelo naturally. One was bursting at 154lb+, the other easily makes 160lb. Jacobs and Saunders are bigger blatantly, Jacobs for me is a huge weight cutter and prob suited for 168 onwards in reality
Except that one time he was on a boat with some middle aged blonde woman! (wasn't someone holding a beer and GGG had a lil gut)
