That is what is called tainted. He may or may not be a racist. Some people think he is, some that he isn't. One can't prove if he is or isn't. Knowing something about Russia/Soviet Union, I can tell you that almost everybody there is somewhat racist. People routinely call other ethnicities names, most without meaning anything bad. Kovalev was just stupid enough to do it in public.
GGG's management has certainly polished his character for marketing, especially here in the USA. HBO is pushing GGG hard needing to repel competitive boxing networks. So GGG will get a healthy "push" as the new boxing star, replacing Mayweather.
Meanwhile, HBO (and Showtime) is quietly offering Mayweather Tons of cash (enough to buy GGG's whole family) for the rights to air Mayweather-Pac ll. :yep
