Hes obviously more accomplished than Canelo at MW, if thats what you mean. Hes the most accomplished since Martinez for sure.

Let’s be honest....GGG beat Alvarez and was shafted by a gift draw for Alvarez. Regardless....The Alvarez win by itself doesn’t make him the greatest middleweight champion since Hagler....it’s his accomplishments, dominance and consistency ruling over his era of the middleweight division that allows him a seat at the table. He’s behind Hagler and Hopkins, but well ahead of Martinez, Taylor and Pavlik. I’m not saying GGG beats every last Middleweight boxers that has fought at 160 over the last 40 years but in terms of middleweight champions, he’s in the top 3 in the last 40 years. Hagler, HOPKINS and Golovkin have been the most consistent, accomplished and dominant to validate their position.

Martinez only defended the middleweight title 6 times. He won the middleweight title from a 14-1 Alex Bunema. He drew with Kermit Citron in his first defense. Lost his title to Paul Williams. Beat Kelly Pavlik. Knocked out Paul Williams in the rematch. Went on a streak beating Dzyndzyruk, Barker, Macklin, JCC Jr and Murray before losing to Cotto and retiring.

Golovkin is definitely more accomplished than Martinez, Pavlik and Taylor who were the 3 Middleweight Champions after HOPKINS. So Golovkin is behind Bernard.

yes that needs amending, he has recently overtaken Martinez when he had his 7th defence. I believe Sergio fell at his 7th hurdle.

You already know I didn't think the action produced by both of these guys warranted a draw or that it was a close fight.

True, however mass consensus is more important than a decision no one accepts...and I'm far from the only one who didn't give the judges call any validation. The official decision doesn't change the fact that in the eyes of the public Golovkin won. Which is more important than the "draw" provided to the fans. The verdict in this fight doesn't equal the value of the paper it was written on.

 

Plenty of people "accept" the decision. Some disagree with it, most may have thought Gennady won, but for you to say that "no one" accepts the decision is ridiculous. With the way that Canelo finished the fight in Rounds 10-12, as strong as Canelo was in those rounds, it's hard to argue that he lost. They're called the Championship rounds for a reason, and Canelo won them. When Canelo was landing those bombs on Genneady in Rounds 10-12 and won those rounds, naturally we'd expect there to be a close decision. Gennady had an opportunity to finish the fight strong and possibly earn a victory, but the fact of the matter is he just couldn't win Rounds 10-12, he got outboxed in those rounds by Canelo and it cost Triple G the victory.
