And a very good win at that. But you forget that Lacy at that time was a major win and world champ and Jones at that time was a top 10 LHW with a good LHW resume, who had victories over many others in the top 10 and was favoured by many to beat Calzaghe
P4P rankings really don't mean squat though. Posters use some mythical list way too often IMO. Bika was a spoiler, I'll admit that. But this gives me a little something to think about I suppose.
At the tam Lacy was a heavy favourite Bika in his prime was hell. Even shot he gave Ward he could all he could handle
Yes I think Lacy is better. He was an undefeated world champ who had beaten world rated fighters in Vanderpool, Tsypko, Pemberton and Reid. I think Eubank, Mitchell, Woodhall and Reid were better also. some others I feel have an argument
Forreal my G, and I will tell you this right now . The hate will not stop until GGG gets into the ring with Canelo . No matter who GGG fights next , if its not Canelo . The hate will just continue to get bigger and keep coming his way . Only the Canelo fight will finally put all of this to an end and that's me being completely 100 with you. GGG needs Canelo badly right now . The fight will happen , I believe so. So when Golovkin stomps Canelo . It will be complete silence after that . No one can say anything else . There iz nothing left to say period . Everyone will have no choice but to swallow their pride and finally praise the man and keep it pushing .
Mercy stoppage. Look at how bad it was when Lacy was able to continue. Calzaghe ruined many American SMW careers. Lacy the fight was left to go on too long and Lacy was not the same after, Mitchell was beaten clearly for the first time in his career, didnt fight for another 4 years and was never the same, Brewer was stopped every time he fought after in Europe, McIntyre had gone the distance in America with decent SMWs but was badly hurt by Calzaghe, Sheika was tipped for big things and beat G Johnson to get a shot at Calzaghe, Pudwill had gone the distance with a world champ but was put up as a late sub against Calzaghe, Jimenez only fought once after to get beaten by a fighter who lost to a Calzaghe victim. It wasnt what I would call a good stoppage but it was a fantastic mercy stoppage
GGG is hardly a slapper though. Big difference. Also GGG offers real knockouts, not British fake stoppages like Calzaghe did for large stretches of his WBO "reign".
So, do we have a hugely overrated American that Golovkin can destroy to act as his Lacy? I think such insane overhypes don't happen that often. It might be that Spence turns out to be a total dud against Brook to give him that by proxy... but I believe Spence is levels above Lacy though.
yeah man calzaghe was closer to the end of his career! good post! like prime roy and nard dont work joe! and i like joe! i think joe was real good...but lets be real...his resume is weak...you brittards will never admit it or realize it...a prime roy stops joe easily
i don't have the knowledge on Calzaghe to offer an informed opinion. one interesting similarity between Calzaghe & GGG though (that i think is rare among championship fighters during a 10+ year career): both fighters spent their entire pro careers in the same weight class (SMW for Calzaghe, except for his last two fights at LHW; MW for GGG). Hagler and Monzon were MW for at least the large majority and perhaps all of their carers, but i can't come up with another elite-level fighters over a career spanning 10 or more years. Could have been a lot of them--just don't know who they are. that said, one major difference between GGG and Calzaghe: GGG has fought in venues well outside his home country/region and quite often in his opponents home (eg, Brooks in London, Jacobs fight was within walking distance of Jacobs' home) Calzaghe fought only twice outside Europe: last two fights of his career (against Hopkins and RJJ).
please do not insult 3g by calling him the new calzaghe. we all know calzaghe hid with the unknown unreognised belt until he was 34. 3G has unifed and defended recognised belts younger than joe, and has made more defences of them, and the best is still yet to come, whereas joe only had one fight left after that. 3G is willing, grinningly and happily each time, to defend his unifications again and again, whereas joe runs in gibbering petrified fear from non-wbo defences that havent been set up as wins by wassen. the only similarity is that 3g started off with an unrecognised, unknown title like joe did for quite a while, but not for as long.
I'm just watching the Jacobs fight again.. -1 GGG fairly close -2 GGG fairly close Setting tempo controlling range & frustrating Jacobs on the backfoot with jab. Jab is the key here. It's a jabbing clinic.. -3 round of two halves really, GGG is cool & patient & DJ is having a bit of success, looking cocky but backing up! Fairly even or may have edged it to Jacobs.. So to be fair i'll go with Jacobs. -4 DJ turns southpaw & gets planted lol the jab is murdering Jacobs here! 10-8 GGG dominant round! -5 GGG almost straight away lands a beautiful right.. jab & right hand is whats working here. Jacobs looks outclassed & a bit befuddled in this round. Looks like he gets rocked by a left this time too lol dominant round! -6 Jacobs moving well, on his bike! Lands a great shot but GGG unfazed.. this is power shots versus jabs here! I'll give that Jacobs.. GGG looks unfazed though! Still in control.. -7 DJ lefty again.. competitive but GGG is controlling Jacobs who is on the backfoot. Hes holding his own but again GGG does enough. Getting messy. I just don't see a robbery here, competitive yes... It's a controlled & measured fight by GGG in which he's doing enough in most rounds.. All this posturing by Jacobs is not fooling me! -8 I'll give that Jacobs on workrate. Still GGG looked in control though.. Jacobs did a little better frustrating him there though. -9 Again clear GGG round. GGG Lovely uppercuts! Jacobs isn't landing much.. just posturing! Jacobs getting beat up a little towards the end.. -10 Jacobs starting well. Up close with GGG.. DJ winning this round , battle of the jabs here! DJ won on workrate. My score of 155-112 might be wrong! It's actually far wider thus far.. I was a bit drunk when i watched it LOL ... Round 11.... -Jacobs getting outworked, not landing much, outboxed at the beginning here.. Jacobs fighting back! Close but GGG looks unfazed having a bit of a punch up here! I'll be fair & go Jacobs here.. So that's 4 rounds to 7 thus far! LAST ROUND! -12 Jacobs looking a bit weary, GGG looking unfazed.. GGG sealing the deal. Finishing like a champion. DJ fighting back but looking wreckless.. Actually might give that DJ but close! That was a controlled, measured & impressive GGG performance. Credit to Jacobs here too but he was beaten fairly. His posturing by him & his team at the end like he won is actually a joke! No way at all! ADMITTEDLY I WAS RIGHT FIRST TIME THEN LOL 115-112. This wasn't even close to a robbery really! GGG's own dominant rep is what has caused all the robbery heat! Competitive but my god i don't see anyway Jacobs won that TBH!
Jacobs Brook Lemieux Murray Geale Are not a bad set of wins. He probably needs a signature opponent though.
You look at Ward - his greatest foe is Kovalev Most think he lost to Kovalev Zaggers greatest foe was Kessler. And he took a beating from him, before adjusting, and beating the Great Dane up
