Reason I wouldn't pick Pavlik is that Golovkin does everything he can do much better and probably has a better chin(not that Pavlik ever had a bad chin).

Pavlik coming up pre-Taylor was given lots of hype due to being a white American that was world level, despite having more limitations in the skill set than 3G. He also didn't amass a huge resume before the Taylor fight, sole good wins being Zuniga and Miranda and he got the fight because it was the obvious best two at MW. Taylor fought anyone. The complaints that 3G hasn't earned a shot at Serg is an absurd one.

Martinez ducking him for sideshow fights and holding that same lineal title that goes back to Hopkins hostage is a very annoying thing.

This is why these fantasy matchups are so futile though - at the time he beat Hopkins, Taylor was less proven than GGG, yet beat him he did.... you just never know. After BHop he had one top MW victory - a past prime Winky ('less you include, ironically, JMWs Ouma and Spinks).

Would I favour GGG right now over prime Hopkins (not that the young Hopkins beaten by RJJ or older one by Taylor were prime), no, but would the upset be unbelievable? Not at all - this is boxing.

Based on what does he beat Pavlik "easily?"

Kelly lost to athletic movers, neither of which describe GGG. Moreover, Kelly had s great chin that took several right hand bombs from Edison Miranda who, whatever you may think of him now, had scary one punch power with his right hand in those days.

GGG vs Pavlik is a pick em fight.

Pavlik had a better jab than GGG, while the latter is more offensively diverse.

GGG has never been hit by someone who hits as hard as Kelly.

    Bhop wins a decision
    Golovkin would stop Tito late
Winky might win a close decision
    Golovkin stops Taylor and Pavlik

What's interesting about Pavlik-Golovkin is that they love fighting at the same range. Golovkin has better footwork and punching technique than Miranda did back then... give Taylor Golovkin's energy transfer ability, engine and natural power -- the two fights might have gone completely different. Pavlik would certainly be the toughest and most powerful fighter to get in the ring with Golovkin, but at the same time I feel Golovkin murders all of Pavlik's wins.

GGG/Hopkins is a 50/50 fight, GGG isn't your typical puncher, he's got a high ring IQ too, knows how to adapt and handle slicker, faster fighters. Tito's best weight was 154, not 160. Same for Winky. Pavlik would a been a war, but GGG just on a higher level. GGG is actually used to being the smaller guy beating up the bigger fighters in the ams. And many of those he beat became champs. I can see why not many want to fight him.

Out of that list, the only guy I've favor against GGG is Hopkins.

GGG would knocked Winky out. He likes to loop his punches around the glove, so while the turtle shell is effective, it'd be less effective against Golovkin. Mix in a high work rate and Winky is in for a beating.

Tito would get knocked out. Golovkin is bigger and stronger. With that awful footwork Tito has, he wouldn't be able to get away fast enough.

Taylor? If you allow him to fight at his own pace like Hopkins allowed him to do, he'll look good. Pressure him enough and he'll break like he did so many times. He gets KO'ed.

Pavlik is a good matchup because of his size, but he's slower than Golovkin and isn't as strong. They both like to fight at the same range, but GGG is a better boxer and has a better offense. 60/40 fight in favor of GGG.

Calzaghe beat Hopkins, Jones beat Hopkins, Taylor beat Hopkins, etc., Hopkins lost to Dawson who is a finished boxer................over-the-hill..................Golovkin is king of the middleweights..............
