Hopkins drew with segundo mercado, who you say? SEGUNDO MERCADO! The guy who went on to win one of his next nine final fights after he drew with Hopkins, the guy who put Hopkins down twice, the guy with 11 kos. You guys are ******ed if you think someone who lost to jermain Taylor twice, pascal(it wasn't a draw) and chad Dawson is just going to walk over the hardest puncher p4p.

And enough with "he's lucky Julian Jackson isn't around". Are you aware Jackson was ko'd in all 6 of his losses?

taylor made his name beating Hopkins - twice - so how do you know golovkin is at least as good as him based on who he's fought?

Hopkins was 40 years old when he fought Taylor and Taylor is a very different fighter to Golovkin. Taylor had the speed, size and reach to hit Hopkins and move away from being countered or mauled on the inside too much. Golovkin doesn't have the style or speed to do that, he'll throw a punch and prime Hopkins would step inside to smother any further punches and then maul Golovkin in close or simply move out of range laterally.

That fight was on 2 weeks notice and at over 9000 feet above sea level. Most people would be gassed after 3 rounds having not prepared to fight at altitude. Lewis was breathing heavily against Rahman after a few rounds and that was only at 5000 feet above sea level.

When fully prepared in the rematch he crushed Mercado. People focus all to much on the first fight and conveniently forget the 2nd fight to suit their argument.

Hopkins was 40 years old and struggle at the weight when he fought Taylor and even then made it close. How would a 40 year old Golovkin do against Taylor, he'd probably get KTFO like most 40 year old middleweights.

Because Taylor fought a bunch of 154 pounders that moved up to Middleweight like people are accusing GGG of doing and Taylor wasn't very good. They were close fights also. I am not sure the Jab and then lead with your head and then grab, clinch, wrestle, hug will work on GGG.

    It doesn't work on everyone.

I've been to quito, you get used to to the elevation in a few days, popping some l arginine is very effective against altitude sickness. Two weeks time was more than enough time to prepare for a fighter of mercados caliber. Yes I know he smoked him in the rematch, but the first fight did happen and he looked horrible. And I respectfully disagree regarding his age in the Taylor fight, it's a non factor. He's proven age is irrelevant at 49, it certainly wasn't an issue at 40.

winning close fights against the long-reigning MW king are wins nonetheless - and something nobody else could do before him

but my point is, at that time nobody said (like you are now), "taylor wasn't very good" - because its always easy to say in hindsight now, after his fall from grace
i'm a fan of golovkin - its impossible not to be - but people are calling him the second coming at, what, 32 years of age when he hasn't fought anyone

yeah, I know it isn't all his own fault - i'm the first to say it - but it shows how fickle people are when a puncher starts sparking lesser mortals, and it's ALWAYS the punchers who get hyped before they've earnt it

Its very hard to do to GGG. He takes steps and half steps back all the time when people try to smother, isnt shy about forearming or stiff-arming ppl off of him and controlling their head with a glove or just keeping his elbows in then shoving.

Is why I am always somewhat amazed when people think the first inside mauler he comes across will somehow have an easy time.

Walking around at altitude and taking part in a world championship boxing match at altitude are the same to you, really :patsch

Yes he smoked him in the rematch and why was that, was it because he had more time to prepare, wasn't fighting at altitude or did Hopkins improve that much in 4 months and if so you can't judge the rest of Hopkins career on an inferior version.

The fact you don't want to factor in the age it's clear you are either a sad little hater who won't give certain fighters any credit or you are just a troll either way pretty sad.

Once you're acclimated it shouldn't be an issue. It also doesn't affect everyone. Try travelling so you know what that's like. And I think Hopkins has had a great career. Fact is he's beatable. Nice attempt to label me just because I don't agree with you.

Funny this thread should be made, as by watching GGG corner a slick speedy mover like Geale made me realise he would have the perfect style to beat Pops.

Light on his feet, ready to punch in all positions, good defensive skills, granite chin, pressure, good workrate, and deceptive hand speed when he wants to.

Considering it's Pops we're talking about here, it wouldn't be very fan friendly, but like Calzone did, GGG could shut down Pops offence by focusing him on defense, and work him out for a dec win.
