Bro I've been saying what you just said for months... I knew this fight wasn't going to do big numbers from the get go and that the 10 mill plus upside was a fair deal. Now that the offer went up to 15 mill GGG needs to just accept the biggest purse of his career and fight Canelo Alvarez... But the Goons, they don't learn, they thought that was a low ball offer and over estimated his drawing power. Hopefully they will learn now.

    Canelo got that star power.
I'm glad GGG Jacobs did 3,7 million live gate, more with sponsors and merchandise.
These guys need to get paid

Don't forget his opponent was American, and it still flopped. Canelo is not even American and he does better numbers in America. Pacquiao did great numbers and he's Filipino.

I have a hard time getting excited about this fight. If Jr. makes weight, he's going to be drained and Alvarez is going to have a heavy bag workout for 36 minutes. Alvarez may be the "cash cow" nowadays but that doesn't mean that much any more. Not that many "casuals" know of either Alvarez or Jr. and they are the ones that push the ppv numbers close to seven figures. Hell, I doubt that many boxing fans are that excited about this fight. The more I think about it, 650K would be a damn good number for this fight.

Boxing just isn't a PPV sport in the States anymore. Nothing to do with GGG being a foreigner. Pacman and Clottely were foreigners and they sold close to 1 million buys.

There are no stars , the void left by the Mayweather era is too big to fill and HBO isn't a fraction of he power house it once was.

Boxing was on the way out in the UK during the 00's , now its where its at. Big selling PPVs to beat the band. Its booming.

It's not. People just support their countrymen.

    Canelo (35,797,080 Mexican Americans)

    Pac (3,416,840 Phillippino Americans)

    Floyd (318,900,000 Americans)

    GGG (23000 Kazakh Americans)

Only hardcore boxing fans are buying these PPV's. Same as Ward vs. Kovalev. Neither one of them is a draw or can attract a huge mass of people. It's only real boxing fans and sport bars who buy them.

Live gate did well 3.7 million plus sponsors and merchandise.
GGG can be a decent draw with the right opponent but he's 80-20 when it comes to
    Canelo

That's true on Canelo's drawing power. Canelo needs an attractive partner to sell a fight big. I just think this has enough intrigue and sideshow-ness to it to bring in a crowd. But you are probably right, the days of the million buys are most likley gone, if not to become very rare. I just hope Chavez jr makes weight healthily.
