He wasn't though, he couldn't have been. He was probably 9 or so. Even that was a bit generous. BUT, he's still the best rated middle willing to step in the ring with GGG so far. Chavez is willing, but Top Rank not so much.

 

In terms of achievement, absolutely. In terms of talent/skill, maybe. They had a sparring session years back where Canelo apparently had the slight edge. Until I see Golovkin step up and take on someone inside his own division who doesn't have the fighting style of a ******ed octopus and is hopefully at least a top 8 MW, I will rate Canelo better. Is that not fair?

That's not the story i read. The article i read said canelo made a
good acct of himself and landed a good shot that shook GGG but
then went right back to work on ginger. It was also noted that GGG
was having fun with Saul. GGG Ko's 'nelo in a real match-up in 6 or
less.

 

I got that, I'm just correcting you on top 5. He's never been that high in the Ring rankings, and I fully believe Smoak he was #10 even before the loss to GGG. I guess they didn't demote him cause there was no clear replacement, and they were impressed with his guts in taking the fight on short notice.

Of course that performance was on one of the most poorly bought PPVs in recent memory. Far more people probably saw Ishida get shut out by Williams. Regardless, there was no talk of Ishida vs. Khurtsidze's name value prior to this point, particularly because name value has only appeared as an ad hoc addition to the initial argument that no middles worth anything would fight Golovkin.

What has Ishida demonstrated at middle against actual middles?

I reject the idea that Ring rating plays any role at all in fights getting made or approved, most especially since this was after the ratings change policy. I'm also pretty sure he just signed with DiBella, so the promotional advantage is not in Proksa's favor. Proksa may have held more pros when it came to potential marketability, but at that point he was no more well-known to US audiences than Khurtsidze. I would further note that Khurtsidze has an entertaining style which should make it a desirable fight, particularly for a network now driven by "fights not fighters."

I gave a middleweight who hadn't turned down a fight, and name value has suddenly been used to qualify who does and does not count.

Fair enough if you rate Canelo higher, I disagree I think Golovkin could potentially be one of the best in the world...

 

Top 10 makes it acceptable to fans, it still means something saying Ring top 10 (less and less so). Ok Avtandil will have a better chance being promoted by LDB, but it's no sure thing. He pretty much has 0 upside, unlike Proksa had he won. Both have entertaining styles. Proksa has more "flair" though, the other guy is more straight ahead. Plus he is a midget. And has no good wins. If he got knocked out in a hurry, it'd look like joke, having this unknown midget on HBO, like Rees x5. But if that's the best they can do, I'll watch.

 

Considering the fact that Canelo is smaller and has nowhere near the amateur pedigree that Golovkin has, he did very well even rocking the supposed iron jaw of Golovkin.

Soliman is also rated as a top 10 by the Ring., so that's not saying much.

 

GGG is the god of war...I enjoy any of his fights as long as I see him fight I'm happy..

 

Golovkin seems to be in with HBO and Top Rank, they aren't going to go on Showtime and he loses there and one of their few featured fighters is done.
