say Cotto vacates his title and GGG since his interim will then fight for the vacate title, he will not become the lineal champion as he didn't beat the man then the number 2 in the division is Quillin according to the ring, and Quillin has already stated that there isn't enough money to fight GGG(considering he would make more fight GGG than anyone else this is a blatant duck) so if the number 2 in the division will refuse to fight him could we have a situation where GGG might never become lineal champion? i think in the day and age lineal means nothing due to ducking and fights no being made but it matters to some people
In my eyes GGG is the lineal champion already Cotto is not, He beat a shot to **** version of "the man"
I think we need to teach a remedial lesson on what it means to be the lineal champion. I agree Cotto isn't the best middleweight, and his stature in the business of boxing allowed him the first crack at a faded Martinez, but he is "the man who beat the man". Remember Jones was never actually the lineal LH champ, even though he was the Undisputed Champion. Lineal champions don't have the significance they once held, but it's beyond argument that Cotto does hold that distinction.
Agreed, him beating Martinez was a farce. Anyone who doesn't think Martinez was beat and falling down because of the knees is lying to himself. I remember laughing my ass off at the HBO commentators talking about all the reasons Cotto was beating him so it didn't look like Martinez knowingly went in with terrible knee injuries. I woulda been so mad if I bought that PPV.
It would depend on how Ring rates middleweights after Cotto vacates, plus if Quillin loses to Lee he will not be #2 or #3.
