how many more fights do you want to see him fight at 160? andy lee, sam soliman, sergio mora? we know cotto and quillin will avoid ggg like the plague. honestly ggg is in danger of the wlad klitshcko dilemma, having a dominant resume against weak opposition, granted it's not his fault his division is so weak and he is miles ahead of his competition. in my opinion in order for him to secure greatness he will have to move up or down in weight and fight some bigger names/better competition like froch, canelo, ward, chavez jr etc etc not only that but those types of fights will be huge paydays and make him possibly the most popular boxer in the world and put him up there in popularity on this side of the atlantic w mayweather, pac, etc etc..
none of those fights you mentioned are ppv worthy. canelo moving up to 160 would be great but i don't see that happening for a few years. not to say ggg is not great but if he stays and cleans up 160 his resume will be garbage. copy and pasted this from my reply to gggs other promoter.. you sound like a promoter that does not want to put his fighter in a risky fight. like it or not ward vs ggg would be a big ppv fight, it would sell big time, it might not break records but it would certainly do better than any of those fights you mentioned. i'm sure w the proper negotiations/catchweight a fight could be made w froch, chavez jr, canelo etc etc he would have way more of a chance landing one of those fights than a cotto or quillin mismatch.
Yeah, me personally, I'd like to see GGG stay at his most natural wieght of MW/LMW than have to add 8-10 lbs of muscle to compete N of 160. His early career was mismanaged by Universum, and by the time K2 was able to rescue him from them, he'd already become a very dangerous opponent for the rest of the division, as he was immediately ducked by Pirog, Sturm, Geale, etc. That said.....it's too late for him to go down to 147 and restart his career can crushing fringe contenders/prospects at WW. So he's got to bide his time beating competent MWs, several of which are brewing as we speak. And ESPNs BOXCINO LMW tournament, like it's MW tournament last yr, should provide another solid MW contender by the end of the summer. With potential fights vs Lee, Martinez, Soliman, Lemiuex, Eubank Jr, Monroe, Korobov, Centeno, Kyrtov, Murato, Myrasev, Harrison, Mora, Charlos, Maciel, Trout, Lara, Andrade, Canelo, Martirosyan, Basangurov, Clottey etc etc etc......... He could build an ATG resume fighting between 158-160 without ever having to step foot above 160. I KNOW.....I KNOW......Andre Ward is his ONLY legit THREAT ATM. I know this. Almost ALL of GGGs fans know this. ALL his haters KNOW this. All the media pundits KNOW this. THE IBHOF knows this. We ALL know it. BUT..........what are the odds it's makeable without GGG having to abandon a potentially GOAT resume by sticking at MW? Seriously?????? If he fought and beat 1/2 of the fighters on my list.....just half of em.....he's 43(40KO?)-0 and he could retire at 36 as the GOAT p4p.:think:think Why move up and risk ALL that for a single fight against a LHW who won a SMW tournament that was essentially handed to him in his backyard. :huh:huh:huh
Good post Barcham. And if ROC ante's up and HBO puts the PPV option for Cotto/GGG, and Cotto declines........I will hereby declare your nickname CLUCKO* to be his official new name. I will petition the US Govt to officially change it on their website. I will personally tell President Obama to mandate that Miguels family name be changed to CLUCKO*.:good:good:good *TM of Barcham ESB
vs Lee, Martinez, Soliman, Lemiuex, Eubank Jr, Monroe, Korobov, Centeno, Kyrtov, Murato, Myrasev, Harrison, Mora, Charlos, Maciel, Trout, Lara, Andrade, Canelo, Martirosyan, Basangurov, Clottey i see u want him to drag fighters up to 160 but i don't see you trying to get anyone down to 160. i just want to see him win some competitive fights against elite competition. i don't see any atg resume building fights at 160 atm, unless he can convince someone to move up or down to fight him.
Didn't read the rest but Pirog never ducked him. I still wish that fight could've happened. Would've been a great fight.
