For one thing if you are starting with Geale, he made 8 defenses. So you miscounted.

Another thing, he was elevated to Super Champion before Geale. He was already recognized as Regular Champion therefore they count. You can't debate the origination that is doing the recognition.

WBA Super Champion=Promotion for multiple defenses or unification.

One reason I said around 7, is that its difficult to envisage someone being"handed" a title until they fight someone for it. ...fighting for a vacant title isnt a defence...yet 3G was awarded the title BEFORE setting foot in the ring.
It was either a vacant title fight, or a deliberate "rule bender" yielding 3G the belt for nothing on June 3rd 2014.

However I am ok to give 3g a pass on being handed the belt, as I am a big fan of his so 8 is fine by me.

2. for any given body, title defences are defences of one world title from that boxing org. There are not two or three planet Earths to justify 2 or 3 world title belts from any single organisation. Not until we get an Earth 2 and an Earth 3 etc.

 

The WBA and record books recognized Golovkin as World Champion. You are going to have to deal with being a powerless spectator.
