There is 8 months between September and May, YES, 8 MONTHS. Why didn't GGG line a fight up for January? He didn't take much punishment against Canelo, maybe a little mental punishment, but nothing too damaging. We know Canelo probably isn't fighting more than twice a year anymore, but GGG should. Fight in September, take a whole month off, train for 2 months plus, fight in early January. Then, take another whole month off, and have almost a 3 month camp, and be ready for May. GGG used to say he wanted to fight 4 times a year. What changed? Did he realize he's not a spring chicken anymore? Doesn't want to risk a loss? I want to hear some theories. I feel like a KO win between Canelo fights would boost the second fight a little more.
GBP and Canelo are running a train on K2 and GGGs career. Not only did they stop him from becoming undisputed they have now made him inactive by stalling out his career which is a big advantage for them because GGG relies on being active to make weight easily.
Agree with that. But at least GGG is getting paid. If that's running a train, what do you call what Roc did to Kathy Duva?
Running a train? No way GGG making 30 million in 2 fights spanning 8 months That’s the best in the business especially for a 36 year old man
GGG wants to play it safe. Definitely thinks more about the retirement these days and how to earn as much money as possible for it.
Golovkin doesn't want to jeopardize the May fight with canelo. Last time ODLH insisted that GGG not take a fight before the meeting, and it sort of makes sense from a "what if you get injured?" perspective. However, let me remind folks that GGG wanted the rematch in December already. I think that they're waiting for him to age a little more ...
Yeah he is but he might have been able to get that money whilst getting a better deal if he had better negotiators. I think Golovkins career is spiralling to a halt soon after this Canelo fight, Canelo will probably beat him by hook or by crook. Then where does he go I’m not quite sure maybe move up?
Duva was just over confident in her guy, they couldn’t believe this little guy Ward would be able to beat them and it backfired. I think that’s what happened there personally but the rematch deal was so bad for a top fighter.
Same here. And if GGG did fight again before the rematch, I’m sure the GBP goons will say like, “fight again and the fight is off...” or some BS like that...
Have to agree here the inactivity isn't good for Golovkin. On the other side he is already 35 and he had 2 hard fights in 2017. I'm sure Oscar want's to delay a Golovkin Canelo rematch so Golovkin should at least look for alternative fights. If the rematch isn't fix by end of january Golovkin should search for an alternative opponent for a fight in late March or early April
I don't see anyone mentionning a real human reason. His wife was pregnant and gave birth a couple of days before the Canelo fight and he missed the birth because he was training. I'm sure he's happy with the millions he made with the Canelo fight and he's enjoying his time off with his familly. Fighting 4 times a year is great to build your name up but it really doesn't allow you to do anything else. I think he certainly deserves it. If the rematch gets made and he wins it, he could unify with the wbo belt in august and then maybe squeeze a third fight in november. And if he "loses", move up to 168 and fight the winner of the world boxing super series.
