Man, this thread... Golovkin is good defensively. Not amazing, but he is good. HIs head movement is quite slick when moving away from the target and he can generally be quite evasive. He seems to be the type that - one he realises the other guy can't hurt him - will take a few shots to land some of his own. We can slate that all we like, but he hasn't come remotely close to losing a points decision when it has gone that way and has otherwise just steamrolled everyone else. I really don't buy this "he can't box" nonsense. Because it is just that - nonsense. He hasn't had a matchup against a highly skilled boxer type at MW, simply as there aren't many. Geale is a great mover and is perhaps the closest thing to it. On the subject of Lara, I do think Lara is a superb boxer. He'd get KO'd though. Golovkin is too big and he cuts down the ring so much better than he is given credit for. He'd get to Lara and end him
never used the word feather fisted heavyweight power but do you know how HARD A FEATHERFISTED heavyweight punches if he were to fight middelweights? you nuts a feather fisted heavyweight like chrisora or even malik scot for example would kill mws and light heavyweights MWs/LWs would dream to have power comparable to chisora
Ok, why then don't you take this oppotunity to rate Golovkin's power @ HW. John Ruiz, who wasn't feather fisted, landed cleanly on Roy Jones - a former middleweight - and Roy was able to deal with Ruiz' power. James Toney, another former middleweight, KO'ed Evander Holyfield and NOBODY would consider Holyfield a feather fisted HW. Really? LOTS of middleweights and light heavys have moved up to heavyweight and had good success. The afore mentioned Roy Jones and James Toney. Also guys like Archie Moore and Michael Spinks. Ever heard of a guy named Michael Moorer? Moorer moved up to HW from 175 and used to beat the dog **** out of feather fisted heavyweights...
You dummy you asked me who would win golovkin and wlad(who I also really like) wlad would knock him out:hey I will make these points clear one last time golovkin hits LIKE heavyweight wlad hits very hard for a heavyweight can you understand this is this clear for you're pea sized brain?
Ok, now I'm asking you to rate Golovkin's power at HW. Does Golovkin hit like a feather fisted HW, a solid punching HW or a big punching HW?
I wont go by that classification but I would say he has a average heavyweight power that in itself is astonishing even a feather fisted heavyweight would kill mw's and lw's feather fisted heavyweights only have problems hurting other heavyweights...............I would place Golovkin a level above a feather fisted heavyweight
Can I ask what your definition of tomato can is? Geale and Rubio for example would be hard to describe as cans
Like someone said in the topic, you cant have everything. Golovkin doesnt have Mayweather defense, but his defense is pretty good for an offensive fighter. Even if his defense isnt perfect, it will be difficult to exploit it because you have to worry about the monster shots coming at you.
He doesn't need to do anything other than beat elite fighters to be elite...pacquiao is hardly a defensive wizard is he?
He does get hit a lot. He seems capable of slipping shots but he seems to be willing to take a few to keep the pressure on his opponent and get his shots off as his punches will have a greater impact than his opponents. I don't see anyone at middleweight taking advantage of Golovkin's willingness to take shots but it may become an issue if he moves up in weight against bigger, harder hitting men. It maybe the fact we haven't seen Golovkin utilise his full range of skills yet because he hasn't had to. Nobody would have expected Kovalev to box as well as he did against BHop because previously he didn't need to because he has walked through everyone else like Golovkin. When Golovkin does face an elite opponent who knows if he will unveil skills that as of yet we have not seen. Until Golovkin finds an elite opponent who is willing to face him we really don't know how good he is or bad he is.
Why does it always comes back to Cisco the troll , for him EVERYONE are tomato cans unless they are #2 P4P in the world (his boy ward) , he is a disgrace to the sport and should be avoided by all costs , Geale is a good MW with slick movement , is he the best , no , but he isnt a tomato can (he will box Cotto`s head off for example). you cannot reason with a guy who calls everyone tomato cans , you just cant.
