INTERNET I recall around the time Golovkin fought Monroe he had approximately 75k twitter followers. He had a big jump during and immediately following the fight. Then he had the Lemiuex fight and the numbers jumped again. His numbers continued to move higher up thru the Canelo/Cotto fight. He now has 162k followers and the rate of increase has slowed. I'm sure by the time he fights Tureano Johnson he will add maybe another 20k followers. He signs that Canelo fight for September and that should be the catalyst for 300k plus followers. By way of comparison for twitter followers: Broner 218k Ward 180k Bradley 85k Cotto 518k Crawford 22k Spence 17k Wilder 117k (growing fast) Thurman 20k Jacobs 21k Brook 260k Canelo 556k Amir Khan 1.66 million Floyd 6.6 million LIVE DRAW GGG sold out Stubhub fighting Rubio, 12000 fighting Monroe in LA Forum. 20k fighting Lemiuex in MSG. He can put asses in seats PPV On the cusp. Needs the dance partner. CROSS-OVER Nike, Apple.
GGG has 161k Twitter followers and love from UFC's biggest stars. HBO loves him, Mexicans love him and all that ****. So what's the problem?
well according to them ....he just "need a dance partner".....yet he turns down ward and they are telling him not to cave on a cw for a canelo fight....soooooooooo....i guess its back to cans on hbo?? which is why his fans drive me insane....one guy on here called him the "face of apple" once.....guy appears in a commercial for 15 seconds and hes the face now? lol
Based on the lemiuex PPV results, his current popularity is insufficient for PPV. Add in the fact that 160 and 168 are severely lacking fighters with star power. How many buys would GGG vs Jacobs, Quillin, Saunders, Direll, Degale, Jack do? I'd argue approx 150-200k. At this time the only PPV dance partner for GGG is canelo. And don't say Ward as he's at 175
damn that's a pretty sad overall number for boxing when guys with 20k followers are the boxers with the most twitter followers.
good thread my man and dont forget that everytime he fights it is shown in over 100 countries and he has worlwide TV rights..golovkin is the people champ.
Social media is a terrible gauge. A better way to judge popularity is tickets sold, ability to sell out arenas in different locations, endorsements, etc. Khan has a million Twitter followers but put him in an arena in Las Vegas and it'll be empty.
