They both have a chin. Valero copped a nice elbow in that Demarco fight and he didn't even flinch. Golovkin does similar when he takes a shot, it's like they just chew them up and come back harder.

Every fighter looks like less of a monster when they fight a higher level of opposition. If you can't see that GGG is a beast of a MW then I don't know what to tell you.

GGG an Valero have some similarities in that they were both power punching KO artists, both tough and both skilled. the big difference between them seems to be in mentality. GGG seems to be calculated and thinks in the ring. He also doesn't seem to be mentally unstable.

In his last fight Valero was moving in and out on DeMarco and boxed beautifully unleashing hell on him. I didn't see anything in that fight that suggested he was over-hyped. We will never now it is big 'if'. Mikey Garcia sparred Maidana as a WW and Rios and some other killers and said that Valero hit the hardest and his power was insane.

The ATG talk about GGG is ridiculous. But he has beaten a better level of opponents more consistently than Valero ever did. Valero was hyped with barely a top opponent along the lines of Ibeabuchi. Who is to say what he might have done. But the fact remains he didnt do it to the same level as Golovkin.

Valero was a genuine nutcase though who you wouldn't think twice about if you passed him on the street...wierdly intriguing character.

GGG on the otherhand is more like a friendly appearing Maidana or Matthysse (but everyone has higher expections of him clearly)

Valero was like a possessed sociopathic demon who enjoyed hurting his opponents. I don't think GGG is anywhere near as feared or as vicious as Valero inside or outside the ring.

GGG wants to be feared but Valero was just naturally scary because of how he carried himself as well as how he would fight. I don't think Pacquiao would have wanted a fight with him or Floyd.

And I do think Valero was more talented than GGG. GGG doesn't punch as hard, or as accurate, and while GGG is a good boxer so was Valero. When we thought Valero was a slugger he showed us he could box as well if you watch his fights closely.

He reminded me mostly of someone like Ike Ibeabuchi. A person who had nearly unlimited talented. He was a lot like Pacquiao but with a viciousness which cannot be faked. That viciousness of Valero may have been from mental illness but he still had it inside the ring.

I think a Valero comes along very rarely. Usually if someone is a sociopath they end up involved in prison, in gangs, and they never get deep in boxing.

Valero was a sociopathic thug who could box. His entire life was boxing because he didn't have anything else going for him. He wasn't going to become a politician. He wasn't going to get a day job. He was either going to be on the street robbing and killing people for a living or beating people up in the ring.

And you saw that in his mentality in the ring. He seemed to enjoy beating people up and come at you harder if you fight back at him. Some fighters like Pacquiao also had that quality but the difference is Valero also had both precision and power that Pacquiao couldn't bring up as he went up in weight. He also had a chin.

GGG seems overhyped. He is a good boxer, a good puncher, but he isn't really any better than Abraham was in my opinion. Ward would humiliate him. Froch would humiliate him. Let GGG fight Abraham or someone who actually has a decent resume like Cotto.
