Don't tell me you just discovered how ESB works?

 

You could be referring to a variety of different things.

 

Most people here have strict racial, ethnic or national codes they need to follow, being as though they also know these fighters personally. The whole idea of liking fighters for what they are as fighters, in terms of... Boxing and stuff, just doesn't work. It's got to be either the saddest thing ever or the funniest joke ever told. No bother to me.

Despite being a genuine fan of Golovkin, i've recently became one of his biggest detractors in an attempt to balance out the utter mongs that believe he'd KO Martinez, Ward and Wlad on the same night. That said, you only have to know a tiny bit about boxing to see that he's more skilled than Andre Berto.

He's defensively very sound for a pressure fighter and catches alot of shots on his gloves, shoulders and arms. He very rarely gets hit flush on the chin, and - granted - this could be down to his admittedly poor level of competition so far, but i'd like to think i know enough about this sport to be able to tell someone who is well schooled whether they're fighting Floyd Mayweather or Gabriel Rosado.

Ok, for whatever reason, he has fought very good competition at all. In fact, i'd go as far to say he hasn't even fought a gatekeeper in the Middleweight division yet! That said, you can tell from watching him that he has tremendous craft, defensive ability, footwork, handspeed and intelligence to go along with what seems like devastating power.

I'm hoping he'll step it up this year and fight somebody with a pulse. Even a Macklin or a Barker would be a massive improvement on the dross he's fought so far but - if and when he does step it up - i'm fairly confident he's no Andre Berto. Berto is a banger with decent handspeed, a bit of heart and alot of explosiveness. That's it.

 

Excellent post that I agree with somewhat. I really believe the reason we have not seen some of the bigger names facing GGG is the promoters of the bigger names are indeed avoiding him like the plague. They use the excuse he does not bring a big name or resume to the fight so they don't believe that the fans will pay to see him fight their top fighters. BS, most solid boxing fans would love to see this guy in with ANY of the top guys from 154-168. As I have mentioned in a earlier thread, now that GGG is aligned with HBO, we will start to see the bigger fights with him beginning in June and it will continue as long as he is winning. I don't see any of the bigger names beating him and that is coming from a fan with over 50 years of watching the fight game. I will add that this guy is special and will be a huge super star over the next 5-7 years.

 

Two big reasons why he has haters:

1. His fans soil the boards with ridiculous claims. Some even think he can fight and be successful at HW. These are likely troll threads but still, joke or not it doesn't help GG's fanbase.

2. His recent choice of opposition has been disappointing. Sure, you can say he has good reason to choose unflattering competition. But how many times can you use the "Stay-Busy Fight" card? I say only once. If he can't get a top MW to fight him then he can at least find a bum who is a REAL middleweight.

I'm a GG fan but it's so clear and understandable as to why he has doubters. Maybe if his fans are a bit more humble and he starts fighting solid competitors he'll get more respect. If he can't find good opposition then move up to 168. There is something he can do. He's in his 30's. He can't waste precious time feasting on junior middleweights and expect real boxing fans to take him seriously.

 

I don't believe his team is trying super hard to find opponents Lara and Trout make very low purses, for the threat GGG his opponent needs to make a big payday, it was legit when Paulie told Thurman I'm not fighting you for co-main event money, why would a boxer take a brutal knockout for 350,000?

 

Yeah, he turns 31 next week. It's time to do something

 

He's half Russian/Korean from Kazakhstan.
Btw, Golovkin is a surname that doesn't indicate that he really has russian ethnicity. It's very mixed.

 

Andre Berto is way better than Golovkin period.

 

GGG has power, that much we know.

The question that remains unanswered is how he handles himself when he steps in with an opponent who possesses either the firewpower or boxing acumen/skill set to test his defensive and chin.
