well, golovkin is a typical russian surname not as common as ivanov, but still...

The only attribute I see similar is they are both top heavy with skinny legs. I mean the way they fight is very different. Berto has faster hands, poor balance and throws combination with is chin up.

 

I'll tell you what isn't better his defense. GGG is legit but an elite boxer will punch through his porous defense.

 

Yeah his defense is not great, but he's a lot more offensive fighter and there's a price to pay on both ends. And come on, do you ever see him doing that hilarious shoulder roll and getting dropped by a guy coming up 2 divisions? He probably got hit less in his last 3 fights than Chavez in 3 rounds vs Zbik.

Berto's defense is much worse than GGG. I will grant you that Golovkin should move his head more but he does parry with his gloves well and does bend at the waist to avoid shots. He also for the most part keeps his hands up but he is still very hittable. But so is Martinez, who keeps his hands low and relies on reflexes. No fighter is perfect.

As for Berto, watch the first round with Guerrero where he tries to do his Mayweather imiatation and that is all you need to know about his defense.

 

GGG keeps his hands low, almost "chicken wing" like which is a big no-no. He has no head movement and throws looping shots. Guys like Martinez and Ward would beat GGG. Rosado touched him up and he's by no means an elite boxer. Even with a porous defense, his other skills still make GGG a legit champion who can beat just about anyone in the world.

 

Yeah I said he keeps his hands up for the most part but I know what you mean about "chicken wing". It seems like he does that when out of range though. I would much rather he kept his hands glued to his chin ala prime Tyson.

I don't think Martinez would beat him to be honest. Martinez was down against both Pavlik, Williams and nearly KO'd against Chavez. Pavlik is the only big puncher out of those three and I'd wager GGG hits harder than Pavlik (although I will concede it is hard to tell). Martinez seems to be slowing down and I think he would have to be at his absolute best with continual lateral movement to beat Golovkin. He can't stand in front of Gennady with his hands down and hope to use his reflexes to dodge punches (hell that is why Pavlik knocked him down).

Ward beats Golovkin at this point but I'm not sure who at middleweight does. I'd love to see the Martinez fight to be proven wrong :hey
