how many times have we seen boxers call people out and not be serious about actually making the fight? Happens all the time.
When 3G was chasing the Canelo rematch? Or was it after 3G moved to 168 for fight #3? Lara got his vacant MW title in 2021. Gennady defended his IBF belt in 2022 then later fought Canelo at 168 that fall.
He vacated WBA in 2023 when him vs Lara was ordered the previous year. Prime GGG beats Lara but he was well past his prime and could have lost to a still slick clever Lara at that point and he knew it
If he won, it would be awesome of course. The four belts and undisputed title are the temptation here. If i could write a story line for how i would like Golovkins career to play out in the end, a upset win over Crawford would be it. I must say though, all we can really go by is a fighters last fight, or at least their last two fights. In GGG'S last fight, he seemed to be strong and healthy, but seemed a bit slower and seemed to hold back quite a bit. In his fight vs Murata, he looked very strong, and poised, and he also let his hand go much more. He seemed like the weight cut at forty might be getting a little tough. I think Crawford is somebody with the skill level, of a Pernell Whitaker, only more lethal. After being off for three years, I wouldn't recommend Golovkin coming back without a tune up, or at all. But if he is coming back on a true mission at 168lbs, for the undisputed title, trained by Abel Sanchez, Maybe, he has to really come to fight. Never know, we might get another Foreman vs Moorer type fight. IT HAPPENED, IT HAPPENED!!
Golovkin is a first ballot HALL OF FAMER! A legend. He tied Hopkins all time title defense record, with almost all knock outs, 18 out of 20. That being said, Bud is the legit 168lbs champ, the proven undisputed champ. Your right, after thinking about it, a good showing only, wouldn't hurt GGG'S legacy. A decision loss without getting hurt badly or knocked down wouldn't be bad. A stoppage loss would be bad though. A win for GGG would be out of this world.
If he fights smart like he does, and still has a great chin, he should be fine. I would hate to see him ever get stopped. His chin is one of his biggest strengths. When a fighter gets stopped, it's very hard to unsee it.
As most all know, GGG beat Canelo twice, and Bud only beat him once. Bud, made himself legit at 168lbs. Regardless what weight Crawford came from, he did something unheard of and Crawford strangely is now a full fledged super middleweight.
