Lineal title practically means nothing at any division if noone sees the holder as the true champ.

Fair enough. Im not very interested in boxing finances so I didnt take it into account. Let me rephrase it as "it practically means nothing from a fans perspective."

I see this as a possibility but the WBC loves Alvarez sooooo not sure they stand in the way of Canelo/Cotto.

Good chance Cotto does get stripped of the WBC title though. However Canelo/Cotto, if fought above 154 pounds, would still be for the Lineal middleweight title.

Cotto's lineal title is not attached to his WBC title in any way. Golovkin could either be elevated to full WBC champion or face the next available top contender in their rankings for the belt.

You can't downplay a lineal title. Filling a vacant lineal title is mighty significant as it establishes a clear number one. The further removed you get from that and the more it changes hands the more debatable it becomes. There have been many cases where the Lineal champion was not the top ranked boxer in the division (Igarashi at Flyweight recently; he held the title that was more meaningful than the other belts but didn't have the resume to be my top ranked fighter of the division), but beating the man who beat the man who was the man is always significant as long as the lineage is remotely respectable (for example, I do not recognize YPH as CW champion while some do; I think there is no argument for it personally and have never rated him atop the division).

They offered GGG 7 figures to step aside, with a guarantee the winner faces him in their next fight. I doubt Canelo would have any hesitation to fight GGG, but I don't see Cotto manning up to do it.

3Gs bum run being exposed yet again.

The MW division is so poor , a WW is able to blow its best fighters with ease.

Why stepping aside, Cotto is an easy win for GGG and he could afterwards fight Canelo by himself... why letting Cotto do it before??

Thats two big money fights for GGG, dont let Cotto be in both ones!!
