Yes, that's why the only way the fight happens is if the vacant title is up for grabs. Assuming that GGG and Canelo fight each other next, I'd like to see the IBF title fought for by Derevyanchenko and Charlo.

Here you confuse the older Golovkin whose team select fights carefully with the younger version who'd certainly take any 160 lb'er on.

He consistently wanted the best names at 160 lb until about two years ago:
    Sturm in 2010-2012
    Zbik
    Martinez
    Pavlik in 2010
    Pirog in 2012
Geale in 2012 when Geale was a titlist
    N'dam in 2012
Barker in 2013 (Golovkin offered to fight for free)
    Soliman in 2014
    Eubank Jr in 2016
    Saunders in 2016

It's not the greatest list since Pirog got injured but 160 lb was pretty barren.

lol .Kelly Pavlik didn't didn't know who Golovkin was back in 2010. A lot of this is revisionist history.
A guy with zero name value and who brings a peanut to to the table in terms of worth can't just ask for a fight and them claim he's been ducked because he didn't get it.
Golovkin just wasn't on the radar until he beat Proska in 2012.

When Hearn told that story about GGG offering to fight Barker for free , he also said that Barker didn't know who Golovkin was.

GGG is making an “excellent business decision” by vacating the IBF title

Where’s Kush these days? He’d approve

I didn't say Pavlik ducked Golovkin. I said that Golovkin wanted to fight Pavlik.

However you are exaggerating, Golovkin was already #1 WBC and WBO by 2009 so Pavlik's team definitely would have heard of him.

The facts are quite simple. Golovkin asked Universum to push for the Pavlik fight on the basis of his #1 ranking, but they (Universum) refused - with the lame excuse that they wanted Golovkin to build a profile in Europe first.

I don't ever remember him being ranked by the WBC that high. Around that time Duddy , Rubio and Chavez were the top guys. Chavez was definitely #1 after the beat Duddy.

It's hard to find historical WBC rankings (I couldn't), however I found some forum posts stating this, e.g.:

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/kelly-pavlik-vs-gennady-golovkin-who-wins.163496/#post-4759872

To be honest finding this out a couple of weeks ago was a little surprise to me as well - I didn't recall Golovkin being up there in the WBC that early either.

Those Silver and intercontinental type titles would be an indicator if he was but he doesn't seem to have any of them. Maybe he was though , i wouldn't know for sure. I know for sure he didn't crak the Rind top 10 till 2012.

But if his promoters were the ones holding him back , its not right to blame it on those fighters which a lot of his fans do.

That thread is pretty funny btw

Yep indeed, it's a good laugh.

I agree about Golovkin's first promoters too, many times they and not the fighter were to blame.
