the poster you quoted was right though

hbo approved fights for him that they wouldnt have for others....hes a cultivated star....yes hes fan friendly and hes good....but hes a product of a network and promo company working together

hes a guy that would pick on a ripe, near retirement, froch ...or a bum like chavez...but runs for the hills when ward wants to fight

gggs fans are just like hbo and k2...they desperately want him to be a star...so theyll defend him taking fights like this over a ward fight...which is a big fight no matter how they try to spin it....gggs fans have killed, at least a handful of, other fighters for making business choices and not taking on the biggest challenges....but then it makes perfect sense for ggg....its comical...and sad

ggg fans are so desperate to defend this lemieux fight as "huge"...theyll go to the lengths of mentioning "wlad" and how wlad lost to guys he shouldnt have and got better....lemieux will never be close to wlad....

Purely anecdotal, but I was able to get a seat at the bar at my local boxing pub a day before Mayweather Berto, but the seats were sold out four days ago for GGG.

Curious to see what that means.

    Well....

Both sold out the Garden and Cotto v. Martinez sold only 350k buys. Two big name fighters who both had headlined PPV's in the past.

If GGG gets anywhere near that vs lemieux, then NO QUESTION he's a bigger draw than cotto.

It shows that boxing fans -- including casuals -- love a destroyer.

Floyd had to create his "Money May" persona because his fights often are boring, at least to casuals. Few knockouts and not a lot of toe-to-toe exchanges. So Mayweather compensated for this by developing a larger-than-life persona outside of the ring that was shown in 24/7's and the Showtime equivalent.

Punchers don't have to say much and people don't care. Young Tyson was a pretty respectful guy but when he got in the ring all hell was breaking loose and everyone knew it. That's what people want to see.

At the start of his career, Tyson had 19 straight KO wins. I think that was the longest stretch of KO victories in his career. And everyone wanted to see him fight at the end of that streak because everyone knew what he was getting in a Tyson fight.

Golovkin is currently on a 20 KO streak. Fight fans know what they're going to get and it's what everyone wants to see. No dancing, no running, no point fighting.

MSG is sold out because everyone knows the fight is going to end up with one guy KO'd. It's going to be a shootout between two champions with heavy punches.

Back to the gladiator days, this is what draws people's attention. Someone is going down, who is it going to be?

It says that boxing has already moved on from Mayweather.

Until Cotto smashes him in PPVs when he faces Canelo next month.

Cotto-Canelo is going to be a blockbuster

It's took a while to sell out though, the fight was announced weeks ago and it's only sold out a few days before the fight.
It shows that boxing in the States is struggling when a fight such as this takes this long to sell 20,000 seats.
In the UK it would have sold out in a few days or even hours.
