Murray is a big 160 fighter he comes in at 180 plus and the way he fought boxing and clinching and GGG still managed to stop him and beat him when a big guy like that who can take a punch and fought in a way that he would not get knocked clinching ext and still get stopped shows you GGG no matter what will find a way to break you down We know these days how hard it is to stop a legit guy WHO COMES HOLDING AND CLINCHING AND BOXING YET GGG still managed to find a way to stop him Murray came into the fight clinching and grabbing and trying EVERYTHING not to get knocked out Murray has the best punch resistance of any 160 and 168 fighter the guy can take a shot as a side note Murray went up to 168 and got robbed against abraham
His best W by far. Some like to downplay it for some reason. CST80 in particular is a big time Murray skeptic. I don't get it. The guy was arguably 2-0 against two of the outgoing era's champ's in Martinez and Sturm. Murray was clearly the best available contender to beat in the division and GGG did it. (but still cops flack about not having fought anyone :?)
Murray was very good until he fought Genady. Imidiately after his loss, he had all his achievements erased and became a bum. If Canelo ever finds his cohones and gets in the ring with GGG, he will be branded a bum during the ring walk.
If GGG beats Lee, Quillin, Jacobs they'll immediately become bums too. If he beats Canelo and Lara, they'll become blown up welterweights. And I agree that Murray is underrated. He'd not be taken granted for anyone other than GGG and Ward @160-168.
Martin Murray is hard as nails but he was starting to wilt from Golovkins power by the end of the 3rd. And by that point GGG hadnt thrown anything more than jabs, couple of hooks and couple down the middle. It was a good showcase of his general power and how it breaks his opponants down.
Eh, somewhat. I'd been following Maravilla since his obscure days in Spain (only a few true diehards remembering him from the Margarito loss can lay claim to him being on their radar longer) and he was more or less as good then as he was at 154. His upper body reflexes and offensive fluidity were pretty much there. He was on a gradual decline in the Macklin and Murray defenses, yes, but was closer to being the same guy that bossed Pavlik, knocked out Cintron to get a draw, and iced Williams than he was to being the actual cripple that hobbled into the ring with Cotto. (and I've been a Cotto fan since his 140lb days)
As you saw he was more stationary in that fight yet he was still able to pull of the w ..Murray was what he was so I don't see how GGG beating him was anything special .
To be fair, Murray only performs well in championship level fights. Against B level opposition, he looks absolutely unimpressive. For example, he was beaten by Khomitsky TWICE. Just watch the fights, and you will see that Sergey was robbed by English judges. That is just Murray's motivation issue though. We clearly see that he performs on elite level (except power) in championship fights.
