That's just the nature of the beast- if you can get a fat paycheck on a guy 1 or 2 divisions lower, you take it. And for us, every once in awhile, the little guy wins. Most fighters will give in to that temptation, GGG and Andre included. Given Kovalev's background and routinely fighting for the short end of the purse to get fights made, I'd be surprised if he were an exception.
Half way between classes? 171.8 is still 2 divisions above and closer to 175 than 168. Ward hasn't made 168 in over 3 years. It was Ward's idea to have the fight at 172 who hasn't fought in 19 months, not Smith. It was always a ridiculous proposition. Just like how GGG-Mayweather was a ridiculous proposition. They were always 2 division apart when the fight had a chance to be made.
let me try to explain this again....last year....ward took a 175 fight and came in halfway between 168 and 175...in the event that ggg wanted to come up one class and fight him at 168...at that point, summer of last year, tell me how many fights ward had above 168? 168 is one division north of gggs 160......yer looking at things now as opposed to a year ago when i said ward contacted them about a 168 fight
Now B Hop that man has a set to be proud of. Gennady does too Youre thinking of Pollo & Mayweather They both got empty sacs
I totally hear you...that's why I had to explain my point twice to that guy...he didn't understand the first time...its all good though ward tried to get a fight with ggg at 168 last year....168 is one(not two) divisions north of 160....a year ago ward had fought at 168 for pro career
Really...he didn'y try to hard did he...just like Jacobs is now back peddaling. Didn't Ward make some noise after the brook fight was sewn up ? Anyway lets get Ward's withdrawl over with after he's schooled the knocked the **** out by Kovalev, then after a few more years of excuses he'll retire on the back of super six (wow) & did better with Kovalev than 50yr old hopkins did ...lol
i honestly dont think ward has thought about golovkin since last year....ward realized what kind of fighter ggg is and moved on(not in the good way you bumdog fans think...ward realized ggg didnt want that work) but i have heard sanchez mention how "wed fight ward at 168 but dont think he can make that now"...which is funny cause last year they told him no thanks....very convenient now that ward is at 175 lol...i also heard sanchez say that his guy beats anyone at 175....which is funny since they just fought a welterweight weird stuff...u couldnt make it up
