The only time I saw Golovkin discouraged at all by Canelo's punching was after certain body shots. He'd back off briefly and take a deep breath on occasion. One would think Alvarez must be looking at trying to develop on those reactions in the rematch.

I'd have to rewatch the fight, but I reckon Golovkin might have been dissuaded from targeting the body by Canelo's efficiency at defending the ones he did throw.

    Anyway, good post.

I only remember him getting really checked 2-3 times that night, but he never fell, just looked dazed briefly. 3G has the chin to deal with it, so why not go forward like he does?

Jacobs hit GGG with some huge shots, landed flusher power punches than what he was hit with himself, what fight were you watching?

No punishment.. normal fight.. Tough fight for both yeah but it was not the War and bloodfest that everyone expected.. GGG never looked gassed never looked hurt at all.. Had Canelo on the backfoot most of the fight anyway.. Neither fighter got their life taken away by this fight or anything even close to it.. I think Garcia took more punishment against Herrera than GGG has in any of his fights lol

Canelo also took a lot of punishment. It's probably one reason there has been no confirmed rematch.

Yup. Golovkin was ready to go in December already.

Canelo needed for the bruising to go down first.

    Power punches - Canelo 114 - GGG 110
    That's not a significant difference.

    Jabs - Canelo 55 - GGG 108
    That's significant.

Once again you're insinuating that I've made this argument and have clung to it like gospel lol... Reading through this thread you're clearly the child - not me!

Of course, and that is why punch stats have never, nor will ever be used to determine a winner.

114-110 paints somewhat of a picture, but not the entire picture.

114-110, but it is accurate to say that Canelo landed the much cleaner, more effective power punches. Again, GGG landed two noticeably very good punches the entire fight. Canelo landed great punches in just about every round. By the time the 10th round came, Canelo was Teeing off on Golovkin's chin, with Golovkin following Canelo around the ring.

Canelo out landed GGG in power punches in the rounds I scored for him clearly which were rounds 1-3 and 10-12. Golovkin did scored with MOST of his punches between rds 4-9, but even then some of those rounds were way close.

If you score each round individually as you should, and actually consider the effectiveness of the punches each fighter landed, then if you stay honest with yourself you will admit Canelo landed the better punches in almost every round.

The KO artist was reduced to jabbing, and to a 30% connect rate, with most of the punches that DID connect not landing flush or cleanly. The KO artist was never close to KO the smaller fighter like most GGGoons said he would, and why do couldn't he hurt Canelo? Because like I said his power punches were not landing as clean.
