GGG v Canelo weight - a point that has not been made

Yes, Floyd was able to work out a deal with the WBC so he could fight Maidana at 147 and also have that count as a 154-lb title defense. Don’t you think Canelo should be able to work out a similar deal for his next fight at 154-lb? (fight for the vacant 154-lbs titles next but also have it count as a 160-lb title defense.. like Floyd did vs Maidana)

After all its the same Organization (WBC). Fair is fair. If Floyd was afforded that luxury, to be able to do that (fight for the titles at a lower weight by holding the higher weight titles) then don’t you think Canelo should be able to do the same thing in his next fight?

I agree that what Cotto did with the MW title wasn’t right, but that wasn’t Canelo’s fault. Cotto - Canelo was done on Cotto’s terms not Canelo’s, right? Cotto got to be introduced last, got the Puerto Rican National Anthem to be played after the Mexican National Anthem.

Canelo did what Cotto wanted to do, and Cotto didn’t even pay the sanctioning fee that would have allowed him to actually retain his title if he won.

That’s what Cotto did. Cotto did that stuff. So be mad at Cotto for doing all that stuff. Now Canelo is the champ, and if he isn’t ready to move up to 160 fully then he shouldn’t have to. He still has business at 154, those were his titles that he lost at an absurd catchweight over a Majority Decision.

The WBC instead of allowing Maywather to fight at 147 lbs while holding the 154-lb titles could have instead ordered him to rematch Canelo immediately at 154 lbs! Or could have ordered there be no catchweight in the first place for a unification fight at 154!

Instead the WBC allowed Mayweather to do stuff that they don’t let Canelo or other fighters do? That’s not an even playing field. That’s Mayweather getting advantages other fighters don’t get.

So lets clean up the sport, but not at Canelo’s expense. For all that Canelo has done for the sport of boxing, he should now be respected for who he is, at the un-crowned Jr Middleweight Champ and the recognized Middleweight Champ (without having to defend it, without having to pay a massive sum of money to hold it.. it’s his.. he won it vs Cotto on Cotto’s terms)

Canelo now can walk around proudly as the legit Lineal Middleweight Champ, and he shouldn’t be stripped of it. He should be allowed to “defend it… like Floyd did with the 154-lb titles vs Maidana at 147” at 154-lb in a 154-lb unification fight. (with Canelo’s 160-lb title on the line)

The WBC should allow Canelo to grow naturally into a FulL Middleweight, and build up a Mega Super Fight for 2017 GGG vs Canelo. Canelo first needs to re-establish himself as the Jr Middleweight Champion. And he can be a dual Jr Middleweight / Middleweight Titlist Elevating Canelo status in Boxing!

It will only make GGG vs Canelo bigger and bigger and bigger!

He has not signed a contract to fight GGG yet. He signed a contract to fight Cotto for the title. Cotto also signed that contract then refused to pay the sanctioning fee prior to the fight.

 

In order for Canelo to fight Cotto for the WBC title he signed a contract to defend against GGG in his next fight or get stripped. I know he didn't sign to fight GGG next, but he did sign a contract that said in order for him to retain the title is has to be GGG next.

I don't see how he can get out of fighting someone else while still having the title. Personally I don't care to see a rematch with Floyd. I wonder how his fan base will react if he decides to vacate because he doesn't want to fight GGG at 160. He might be able to save face if he goes back to 154 and clearly says I'm a Junior middleweight. Fighting for a title would also strengthen that case.

WBC has done crazy things in the past. Since they stripped Cotto 4 days before the fight maybe they have a new the rules are the rules policy about their titles.

 

I wanted to make a treat about the same thing. GGG if anything seems to come lighter in the ring even at the 160 limit. I think that a CW at 155 will actually deplete Canelo more than GGG. I think that Canelo will find some stamina and activity at 160 and he will last the distance at that weight losing a 8-4 type of decision to GGG. I favor GGG by knock out at 155-156. I think that he will get in the pocket while Canelo is costing between his rallies and he will kill his body. Cotto tried a similar tactic but he lacked the power to take the steam completely out of Canelo.

 

He's got what 15 days to make a deal or give up the belt? The clock is ticking.
