No contest!!!!!!! Golovkin knocked Lemieux out in a total mismatch, KO 8th round a brutal KO!!! Saunders went 12 rounds by running and boxing, did a good job of boxing, but did not have the power of Golovkin...................Golovkin would walk right throught Saunders' punches, cut off the ring and hurt him badly!!!
Saunders humiliated Lemieux more imo. I mean both dominated Lemieux and made him look crude so I don't see the point of comparing these wins.
Thing is Golovkin would completely dismiss his power, as you said he would walk through Saunders and I don't know how he would deal with that
Both have their merits. But to me Golovkin took it too Lemuiex and broke him down. Saunders has the stylistic advantage becaue Lemuiex is not a talented boxer. He is a puncher 95percent of the time a boxer would beat a puncher at crude one a that. But Golovking takes it imo..
Punch stats are always wrong. It all depends on what you like. I prefer Golovkin's win but they both completely dismantled Lemieux.
I just finished watching GGG vs Lemieux. They were equally dominant performances in their own right. Saunders befuddled and outslicked Lemieux in an extremely dominant fashion, Golovkin outbanged and neutralised him completely. Both had the man looking like an amateur. By the 3rd round vs GGG you could tell the end was in sight soon and I was surprised he lasted a few more rounds after. Same with Saunders after the 4th round. But I guess technically I'd say GGGs. Golovkin had Lemieux at a point where he was absolutely terrified to even throw shots anymore. Every time he threw he got busted up. Whereas BJS was content to just avoid shots a lot of the time, then come back in spurts, Golovkin made him pay literally every second of every round. By maybe the end of the 5th round Lemieux had taken more damage than maybe the whole BJS fight. Either way, apples to oranges, both utter domination on par with each other.
3G was a spectacular knockout, BJS was a boxing lesson. In both cases Lemieux was exposed as being a middle tier world classer, a bit part temporary titlist. But still a decent win for anyone beating him. The HBO coverage is on youtube, it was good coverage in nice soft Canadian accents rather than those pedburger fuelled american yelps. great. Jones jnr looks so uncomfortably wooden as an analyst lol. "YUP UK!"
The same goes for GGG, though. He might not be a back foot cutie, but there was no doubt Golovkin could box well enough to pick Lemieux apart. One might argue that Saunders was more impressive on account of that he has a much lesser degree of thudding force in his punches to keep Lemieux off. By the same token, I don't necessarily see Billy's failure to close the show as an edge by which to recommend Golovkin's performance over his, because Golovkin is the much more forceful puncher. You could also argue that, while Golovkin did dominate him, Lemieux had a shade more success at the things he tried to do there than he did in his fight with Billy.
just ask yourself which fight is more likely to be watched in 20 years. no one will even remember who Saunders is much less want to watch his mickey mouse (safety-first) performance.
I'd argue that Golovkin's was more of a safety first performance than Saunders', given that his style is usually highly aggressive. He showed Lemieux a great deal more respect than he'd shown guys like Macklin, for instance. I didn't appreciate his restraint, despite the threat of Lemieux's punching power, because I felt that the technical differential was such that he was perfectly capable of launching a seek and destroy mission to take Lemieux out earlier without too much risk, which would've provided his fanbase with greater entertainment value in the process. It certainly wasn't the "street fight" he promised. Saunders is not a pressure fighter, as Golovkin is. He has different strengths. As an aficionado, if I have to pull one of these two fights off the shelf in 20 years time, I'll pick Saunders-Lemieux all day. Meanwhile, the casual consumer has much better blood and guts-filled options than Golovkin-Lemieux.
