Prime for prime? Calzaghe UD. To big, quick & too high a work rate. Prime GGG from the Lemieux, Macklin, Murray days... Would give him some thing to think about but I can't see a GGG win.
Ask his fans that when he's done not when he's active. It's unfair. If he beats Canelo next time & somehow gets Saunders in the ring in 2018 for the IBF I'd rank him high on any ATG 160 list. However he won't surpass Monzon or Hagler etc
It would have been an interesting fight. Joe was much bigger than GGG, but imo not as skilled. He was a volume puncher, with great handspeed and good chin. He would be favorit at 168 before he turned 35, but he would be in trouble at 164-166 cw. Golovkin has good engine as well, better footwork and boxing skills i.e. distance control etc. Have been a fan of boxing the last 30 years and IMO both are ATG at their respective weight division; Calzaghe at SMW and Golovkin at MW.
It would be a good test for both guys. Boxer-Puncher vs. Slapper with Calslappy having the size advantage.
