GGG vs Canelo at 160lbs in 2015-16

Prime Golovkin might stop Canelo, but even 2015 Golovkin was a little out of his prime, But I agree U.D or late stoppage Golovkin

 

I think later Golovkin got a UD anyway so certainly a better version could do it too.

 

Any time before the Brook fight I'd favour Golovkin to stop Canelo.

 

Golovkin wins just as he did in 2017 and 2018.

Why should it have happened in 2016?

Because Golovkin stands more of a chance to beat 154 /155 Canelo rather than the 160 or even 168 Canelo?

There is almost 10 years of age and multiple weight divisions between them.. There was never a "right" time for them to fight.

GGG fans are still salty he didn't get to fight the smaller junior middle weight version pf Canelo , cos thats the only version of Canelo he would likely beat handily.

The mike tyson esque Canelo we see now would beat the soul out of Golovkin

 

Prime for Prime Canelo will always be superior.

 

Exactly. 30 Year old GGG probably gets a decision over 20 year old Canelo, but Prime for Prime Canelo will beat GGG 10/10 times, and is better H2H.

Canelo is clearly still improving with every fight. Once a fighter reaches his "peak", there isn't much improving after that.

I think Canelo is peaking at the moment or very close to it.

Golovkin has had a relatively easy career. Since becoming a world level fighter he's fought relatively easy opposition and has declined the hardest challenges many times.

One of the reasons GGG has done so well in his mid 30's and even recently is because he doesn't have a lot of boxing miles. Cosnider these FACTS and be ye learned:

GGG didn't start his pro career until the ripe age of 24.
GGG has only fought a total of 219 rounds. (in contrast Canelo has fought: 414, Mayweather: 397, Pacquiao: 486
GGG has fought mostly nobodies, has-beens, career Super Welterweights, and bums. He's had a relatively easy career for a world level champion.

When Canelo fought GGG, it was Canelo's first real fight at the full MW limit, and the first time fighting a real MW. Not many fighters move up in weight to fight the top guy in the division, but Canelo opted to do it anyway without acclimating to MW. So I can't consider Canelo prime in his first or second fights at MW since he was acclimating to the division.

Prime Canelo would be today. I would say after the first GGG fight Canelo started peaking, and since has reached the top or very near to it. This version of Canelo destroys GGG, and dominates any version of GGG.

 

That was not the best version of Canelo and he still beat GGG. This version of Canelo destroys any version of GGG.
