You can't win rounds on defense alone. And don't give me that Willie Pep crap. Canelo was like Paulie in there. He wasn't lighting up anybody. It wasn't GGG who was running.

    GGG won that fight

If you think Canelo did then boxing isn't the sport for you

One punch doesn't win a fight unless it KO's somebody. It was a Paulie punch. Old feather fist Canelo.

This is spot on, if there is a rematch we might see something like Ward/Kov 2. I had a chance to bet a lot of money on GGG for this fight but I've been telling people since it got signed that it was impossible for GGG to win. Canelo is to skilled to get KO'd and the judges won't give GGG the decision. Im actually surprised they at least gave him the draw.

Canelo is feather fisted at Middleweight. If Canelo is standing at the end of the fight we now have a 5 fight sample size of dubious and erroneous scorecards in his favor. What does that tell you? It doesn't tell us he is a great fighter. It tells us something that is actually the opposite that he needs dubious scoring to stay competitive in fights.

They wanted to give it to CA and outright rob GGG but CA was doing a bit too much running and didn't let his hands go enough.

I didn't say out jab G! He just needed to jab more. There were moments when Canelos timed his jab, it was very effective. I think timing jabs that disrupt G's offense would have paid off.

I really just want GGG to kick Saunders' ass and get that final belt before he rematches Canelo. The rematch should be his final fight before retirement so he can get a nice paycheck. He has no chance beating a protected fighter like Canelo. If this didn't earn him a win, a rematch, when he's even older, sure as hell won't, no matter how many close rounds he wins.

They don't, I'm just saying that if one or either decides to go for interim fights, I'd be fine with that too.

I'm not criticizing anyone either way, just from a pure sporting perspective, I wonder if Charlo, Derevyanchenko, or Jacobs is actually the best MW now, and wouldn't mind finding out earlier.

I can relate to Kiwi's stance- with the division heating up, an interim fight with one of the up and comers (or if someone snagged BJS' title) would be something I'd like to see.

At the end of it though, you're 100% right. No way they gamble on either an upset or a cut delaying, hurting, or eliminating the rematch. Fights this big don't happen very frequently for promoters, and they're not going to wreck it now. We'll see the rematch on Cinco de Mayo, and it'll do gangbusters businesswise.

So Canelo says he won't fight again until May next year, and that might not even be the rematch, they might wait until September.

GGG is hoping that the rematch will be in May and he hopes to fight BJS or Cotto in December.

So looks like you are actually criticizing Canelo implicitly, while I am defending him.

I just want to see the rematch as soon as possible, but we know that Canelo generally fights two times a year, usually in May and Sept. After the draw I think there's even more justification for a December rematch, however I'm not at all surprised that they're talking about the rematch next May. We'll see how the rematch materializes. If G wants to fight BJS or Cotto in December, then more power to him.
