Is his resume at the weight any better than Quillins? He has looked more impressive but his best win is likely Macklin. Cot to beat Martinez who was the true champ based on beating Pavlik who beat Taylor who beat Hopkins.
Trout is a Light Middleweight, Cotto is a Middleweight. Continue your waterfall of tears. Only the almighty tampon is your solution to reality.
You guys are being absolutely ridiculous. I'm a big GGG fan and I do believe him to be the best MW in the world but that doesn't matter. Martinez was the true champ and Cotto beat him and took his title. So Cotto is the man, until he loses or vacates the title. Hell, GGG would destroyed Martinez but that doesn't mean that the title magically transfers to the best fighter in a division automatically. I too think GGG is better than a bum crusher by watching his fights and seeing what he can do, but until his resume backs what we all see we can't crown him. We can have high hopes for his future and bet on him with confidence maybe but we can't crown him. He has to take the crown.
Golovkin's resume is similar to Quillin's but he has looked more impressive so to me that means he has proven it a bit more than him. Cotto only has one fight in the division and it was against a guy who is clearly showing his age now and was possibly injured so again I would consider Golovkin more proven than him at the weight. Everybody thinks Golovkin is the best at 160 so I don't see the point in beating around the bush. Maybe we can't know for sure who is the #1 guy in the division until all the top guys have fought each other but the fact that the vast majority thinks Golovkin is the best kinda speaks for itself really.
To be honest I think GGG is the best at 160 lbs , but I like many others also thought Matthysse was the best before fights took place and well Garcia is the champ. Cotto lineage as the Middle weight champ is pretty clear, GGG hasn't beat any title holders yet.
It is dependent on what Cotto does. Yes, since he beat Martinez, he currently holds the MW title. But if he chooses to NOT fight a MW to defend his title, he relinquishes the MW title to the winner of the GGG-Geale fight, imo. To maintain the MW title Cotto must fight the top MW's.
He can't even make 160 and drained an already shot Martinez. Oh yea Cotto is a middleweight, sure he is. Get your urkel coke bottle glasses out your ass and put them on your face. Cotto is a chumpion GGG is the WBA champion stop making excuses for Cotto ducking GGG.
You are probably right but that is impossible to know for sure so I would still rate him king until he at the very least rules out fighting the likes of GGG and other middleweights.
Martinez was still considered the king despite the fact that all that you said applied to Martinez as well.
What happens if GGG beat Geale then fought Canelo would you then strip GGG of the title and gave it to Soliman or Quillin if they fight a Middleweight next. Most organization allow for one voluntary defence.
Sadly, he will still be able to claim the lineal title so long as he continues to defend at 155+, but like you, in my eyes, one of the best established lineages in the sport will lose any kind of credibility if Cotto elects not to defend against the top MWs (the best of whom has to be considered the Geale - Golovkin winner).
