    Not really

Hopkins has fought at mw before he should actually come down to 160 to fight golovkin or at least 164

When has golovkin ever fought at 170?

At least hopkins has fought at 160

The fight should happen at 160 he should come back to mw

Depends on who requests the weight. If the fight happens, its BHop looking for the fight I think, not K2. If K2 takes weight offered, then it should be fine, BHop is smart enough to know what he can and cant do.

I just dont see BHop letting himself get dragged down to a silly weight at this stage, he wants to retire as wealthy as possible not get hurt. Nazim Richardson is pretty knowledgeable and level headed as well.

I saw a vid recently were Hopkins said he was already at 170 he could easily lose anther 10 ibs

Thats why i think it would be great if they fought at mw for GGG'S TITLES

Hopkins is not a big light heavyweight

Dawson went down from 174.5 to 168. It is a 6.5 pounds difference compare to 4.5. Dawson was a big 175 fighter. Hopkins is not a big 175 fighter. Just like RJJ. Hopkins doesn't weigh-in at 175 as you implied. I understand you are ignoring the fact that he weighs-in at 172,5 for 2 of the last 3 fights.

So your idea is that it is OK for a small middleweight like GGG to go up 10 lbs but it is unthinkable for a small light heavy to drop 4.5 lbs. :D

    Two questions:

    1. How old is Bernard Hopkins?

    2. When was the last time Bernard Hopkins fought at a contracted weight less than 170 pounds?

I think 167/168 is fair since Hopkins is a pretty big name

Yeah BHop is not a big LHW, but 160 at age 50? Just doesnt seem realistic.

If its at 168 and GBP requested that weight then that makes sense. Anything below 168 and I will start questioning the validity of the fight.

At 50, its stamina that is hard. Even if he is at 170 now, 168 would still be an advantage for BHop that he should want. Not having to cut weight will let him keep his legs even at 50, if he has to cut more than a couple pounds for the fight it will hurt him.

If he is at 170 now, and fight is at 168-170 range that just means BHop is seriously trying to win not collect a paycheck.

Hopkins is a small light heavy he even said many times he has to eat 8 meals a day to stay at light heavyweight

His ideal weight is 160 and whats wrong for him to go down and fight GGG at that weight where he ruled for a long time?

The fact he is already at 169 without serious training proved he could easily make it.

    NO CATCH WEIGHTS! :rant

Either agree to SMW if they wanna compromise, or Golovkin can mosey up to 175.

...or, if he fancies himself the A side (over a living breathing ATG legend :blood) and is unwilling to budge, and Hopkins is willing to give it a try for some insane reason, MW.

    NO CATCH WEIGHTS.

He is also lean as can be right now. At 50, draining 10 pounds of fluid will have an adverse effect. Being strong at lean at the weight you actually fight at without a cut, is a strategy to be at your sharpest and have high stamina.

Normally, fighters have been favoring the cut strategy in favor of strength and mass. But that is not , and has not always been the case. Especially in this instance, where Golovkin is a natural 160 and would likely not have any size advantage - making the fight at 168-170 basically lets BHop even the playing field a bit in regards to stamina and mental sharpness without giving up size (like you normally would fighting close to your walk-around)

Its a valid strat. If he did 160, he would just wear himself out which would be silly. A lean 170lb 50 year old man is not going to shrink himself to 160 in 2 or 3 months time without adverse effect, it just isnt going to happen.

    1. Somewhere around 50.
    2. About 10 years ago but he did 172.5 no problem months ago.

So, what's your point? It is fairer to go up 10 lbs than to drop 4.5? It didn't find your answer.
