Would airing fights like Golovkin/Jacobs on primetime free TV like Haymon did Thurman/Garcia not come close to making similar money given the advertising revenue? If the difference wasn't huge it would surely work out better financially mid to long term from the exposure, no?

Satellite numbers come in before the cable companies do. It has always been that way. That is why there is a slight delay. Regardless PPV is a dying business model and getting ravaged by technology and piracy. It is only going to continue to get worse.
