You don't gain skills by moving up in weight. His talent allowed him to go through weights winning titles from MW to Cruiser weight. His talent would be good enough see out a victory against GGG.. Nice disguise there wanker from Washington.
Come back to me when GG has had 56 fights let alone 76. Box that often and for so many years and anyone is gonna have horror shows but his A-list of victories is pretty impressive. So far, GG has Jacobs. **emoji of a man pointing at a piece of paper**
If you're taking the best Toney and best GGG, I'd favor Toney. There's nothing tricky to GGG's style. Toney would roll and counter GGG's basic fighting style.
I'm watching Sanderline Williams / Toney right now, and Williams is snapping his jab straight through Toney's guard over and over. I fail to see Toney rolling and countering anything. Golovkin's jab would have him looking like a bobblehead
There's some sort of theory floating around that one has to have "special moves" to be an effective fighter. That simply isn't so, and Golovkin is living proof of that. He is so effective BECAUSE he is so "basic", his fundamentals are so, so solid and he is very economical with his movement. THAT is his greatness.
I think Toney at his best is a bad style matchup for GGG, but Toney wasn't renowned for his consistency, so who knows.
I can only envisage Toney winning, assuming both are in their best condition. Would love to have been able to watch this and I couldn't be more of a Golovkin fanboy but I can only see the night ending in a triumphant stop in at the Burger King drive-thru. Toney UD
James Toney would be way too much for Golovkin. Toney is a much better skilled fighter, he is an ATG, and is more proven than Golovkin. Golovkin wouldn't even have a puncher's chance against an ironed chinned fighter like James Toney. Just a different level.
Lol I missed those too, especially Mike Tyson. Fair enough, it was not the best wording. So you are saying it'd be close but you think Golovkin edges it? I agree that it's by no means a conclusive argument. I also agree that GGG was far more dominant at MW than Toney was. But Toney also proved himself against many top-class opponents that Golovkin doesn't have on his record, albeit at higher weights. Does that prove the case? No. But it is worth something. For the Barkley fight Toney weighed in at 167 lb, not too far away. If it was at 168 lb would that change your opinion? Or 175 lb? As I understand it, your argument is that Toney was better at higher weights than he was at MW, and that makes all the difference. Coupled that to you believe Toney is overrated. Is that correct? If so, fair enough. I don't agree with all of that, but I can see that you have thought about it, and it's not the common knee-jerk -> Golovkin is very good, he will KO .......... argument. Or the similar argument a casual once tried to explain to me that Mayweather would beat Ali .... LOL
James did have some iffy performances. But you have to note that he was only young and he was fighting once every few months. He had a hectic schedule. It reminds me of Chris Eubank's career. He also had some iffy performances. But it's happened all throughout history, when fighters have been so busy. It was a great performance by Tiberi, and there's no excuses. Even Toney admits he won. And Tiberi had a good style. But personally, I think far too much is made of it. GG is a great fighter, but he's only been fighting 2-3 times per year for a long time now. When Toney fought Roy at 26, he'd already fought 46 times. GG is currently 35, and he's fought 37 times. I think if he'd have had the same schedule as what Toney had in the early 90's, he wouldn't have looked his best in every fight. You also have to note that Toney isn't a renowned puncher, and he fought and beat guys who were much better than the opponents that GG has faced. GG didn't look devastating against Jacobs, and I think you really need to an*lyse the styles of the 2 fighters, and envisage a scenario where both guys faced each other whilst being fully fit, fighting to their full capabilities. I respect your opinion, but I think it's wrong to assume that GG would definitely have won, just because he's looked devastating for the most part whereas Toney didn't. There's just so much more to consider.
Round 6. Sanderline Williams gave Toney all he could handle. This content is protected Yeah, Golovkin couldn't beat this guy Come, guys. Back to reality.
I'd pick Reggie Johnson to beat Golovkin as well at MW, And why is it that every single person that wants to discredit Toney, the fight they bring up is Tiberi, Everyone knows that James fought up and down to the opponent, he was notorious for it. Toney at his highest level was damn near the perfect boxer/puncher, at his worst, he was a lazy non active tub of lard in the ring (and that's evident throughout his career)
