You're the fanboy for thinking Duran vs Hagler at 160lbs was a competitive contest. BTW, Brook beats Pacman at 147lbs. Most natural 147lbs do. He'll more than likely beat FMJ between 147-154lbs, or give him a damn good fight. What natural 147-154lbs did FMJ and Pacman face? They dragged up 135-140lbs guys up to fight there.
But you praise Joe for hogging a title and not facing the best. GG was in no position to meet Andre. He'd just beaten Lemieux and was looking to face Canelo. Likewise, Andre was in no position to fight GG. The fight wasn't viable. Andre didn't drag Dawson anywhere.
they cant be made until hes done it also u keep perpetuating this myth that martinez refused to face 3G. he was back from injury, old, wanted an easier fight first. But the injuries forced him to retire before he could face 3g.
Why can't you buy into the theory that he could have beaten GG wide? We've discussed the Tiberi fight. It was one fight out of 40 plus fights, when he was young. That old version of Mike was still quality. Reggie was quality. So what if he was down on the cards against Nunn? Nunn was quality. How would GG have done against a slick southpaw with a 77" reach? How do we know? Show us some sort of evidence to put forward a theory that GG would have beaten Toney. Because close fights against Jacobs and Canelo doesn't cut it.
Joe was WBO champion and recognised as the number 1 guy in the division. That's why both Lacy and Kessler went to Wales to fight him. Who from the SMW era did Joe NOT beat? He wanted to fight everybody. I think Ward would kick GGG's arse quite literally, so I never wanted to see it anyhow. Usually in boxing the lower weight guy is obliged to fight the number 1 guy in the division above them after clearing out their own division. As most of them have naturally outgrown their respected divisions. Getting Dawson to come down to SMW was like asking Bud Crawford to go down to 135lb to fight Garcia. Now if that fight happened at 135lbs Bud vs Garcia, this is not the best possible match that can be made in this situation as Bud is cutting weight and he won't be himself. Both at 140lbs, great fight. 175lb Ward vs Dawson, great fight. Getting Loma to face Rigo at 122lbs, bad fight.
by who? not by the ibf, that was lacy, not by the wba and wbc after, that was kessler. They didnt go to cardiff for joe being number 1. Its simply that the wbo disencouraged unifications before 2005, since their champions lost interest in a "minor" as soon as they got a bigger one., but in 2005 the WBO was recognised by the other bodies and the WBO, now having valid title fights and equal footing, were happy for unifciations to take place now that their champs wouldnt dump their titles. you mean he was recognised as number 1 by the wbo. The number one in the division was kessler until joe beat the one handed version in cardiff.
I understand your point regarding James's best 4 opponents. But they were top fighters, with great skills/styles. Two of them were southpaws, one was a great technition, and the other one was an unorthadox phenom. GG is a great fighter in his own right, but he didn't possess their attributes. We don't know whether or not GG could have done any better against those fighters. What we know, is that GG had tough fights with the likes of Jacobs and Canelo, and he's easy enough to hit. And I don't think they were 2 off nights, like what James had against Tiberi. I think they were genuinely tough match ups stylistically. I would pick GG to win the rematches, but I think they would be just as close. From what I've seen of both fighters, I would fancy James to beat Jacobs and Canelo more than what I'd fancy GG to beat Mike etc. For me, in a H2H fight where both guys were at their best, James would had to have started as the favourite. Regarding Sumbu Kalambay, I would have loved to have seen that. I would also have loved to have seen Roy fight Mike and Nunn as well. They would have been incredibly difficult matches for him.
Because I don't think any of the other names mentioned are any better than GGG at 160 and, in fact, think they're worse. I left out the Tiberi fight specifically to show that James struggled and was on the fortunate end of multiple other decisions when he stepped up in class at that weight range. You can't write off the Reggie Johnson fight as an off night vs a lesser fighter like what happens with Tiberi. Nor McCallum I or II. Nor the Roy blowout at 168. He outlasted Nunn and I give him full credit for it- Nunn was quality. He was also losing that fight. Those guys all had a lot of success vs Toney, and 4/5 either had an argument for beating him or actually did. What does that tell me? James Toney just doesn't blow out very good Middleweights, and can be beaten by them. Why would GGG be the first?
I'm a big fan of GG's, but I just can't see how he'd have beaten Roy. I don't even think Roy would have gone to the ropes. Some of these members have gotten carried away. GG has great qualities. He's strong. He's powerful. He's got a hell of a chin. He pressures you. He cuts off the ring. All great attributes. But he has little head movement. He's there to be hit. He's not particularly fast, and he marks up. He'd never have coped with Roy's speed and his unorthadox style. We've just seen the Jacobs and Canelo fights, yet there's still members out there who are convinced he'd have beaten Roy. We must have been watching different fights.
Selina, You'd have to make allowances for the circumstances. GG fights 3 times per year and has struggled with Jacobs and Canelo. Toney fought every 2 months and struggled with Tiberi. But sandwiched in between, were wins over top quality fighters. GG hasn't done that. You could say that's because he hasn't had the opportunity. But Toney will get a pass more than what GG will. I don't think anybody has said he was invincible. No, he wasn't a force. But look at who else was in the MW division back in the early 90's. GG is a bigger force and he's been more dominant. But he's fighting in a weaker era.
