RJJ must have had the worst management. He could have easily defended that WBA trinket for huge money. He could have easily beaten the lower tier contenders at the time, defended the belt maybe 3-4 times, called it a day.

Your buddy from Texas was a mental midget and he beat himself. Oh, and Ruiz almost took his head off in round 9.

Do you mean that blatant head butt?? One of the worst I have ever seen right in front of Cortez eyes. He ignored it but "saw" all the bogus low blows Ruiz whined about. Despicable officiating & cowardly prima donna actions by Ruiz. Kirk knocked his ass OUT!!! but got blatantly screwed

This is the problem with just looking at a resume. Virtually all of those "victories" over mostly rather ordinary HW contenders were gained due to incessant violation of the rules against excessive holding, violations that his connections with Don King allowed him to get away this.

Even worse, the "victories" over Thunder, Johnson and in the second Holyfield fight were "achieved" due to overacting when hit with borderline body shots to get key "low blow" point deductions, or in the case of Johnson a bogus DQ "win." Again the connections with King brought favorable treatment from refs for these shameful tactics.

And then there was the outrageous gift decision against Golota, where Ruiz hit the deck twice and got a rare point deduction for his blatantly illegal tactics, and yet somehow got the decision. King's influence clearly extended to judges here, as it did in other fights at this time.

John Ruiz belongs in the debate over WORST HW beltholders of all time, because his whole career at the world class level is essentially based on chicanery. Without King's influence, Ruiz is regional beltholder at best. He's a glorified clubfighter with connections, Exhibit A of the corruption of boxing in the 90s and 00s.

In a fair fight, with the RULES of boxing properly enforced against this mediocre HW, Golovkin beats him all day, every day, just like smaller fighters Jones and Toney (in the ring) did.

The only thing Ruiz should have won was an OSCAR for his acting in the Robbery of Kirk Johnson by Joe Cortez

The counter right that caused Johnson to grab Ruiz by the waist and tackle him

LOL, so a guy who is afraid to go ONE weight class above to 168 is jumping multiple classes to get to Heavy and there are actual posters here who would believe GGG would win ? Better watch synchronized swimming, that is the better sport for you morons to watch.

KO'ing heavyweights in sparring.....but could not KO a blown up Junior middle in 24 rounds......

GGG would get stopped by the limited Ruiz, he literally would get mauled to death and drowned.

Whats next, GGG vs Tyson/Foreman/Bowe etc ......pure murder.
